Why does this question come up so often? And it's so often phrased this exact way. The answer is...OF COURSE PEOPLE CHEAT ON THE LIQUID DIET!!! :scared: :(

People are people, and people "cheat." But first, are you talking about the pre-op or post-op liquid? If it's pre-op, rest assured that cheating won't kill you, but it might hurt your chances for surgery a little. It all depends on why you're on it--not all doctors even prescribe a pre-op liquid regimen.

But if it's the post-op liquids, you could actually hurt yourself by eating something soo solid. The post-op liquid regimen is to let your stomach heal, not to punish you. There's a good medical reason for taking it slowly and following your doctor's orders to the T.

So, which liquid diet are you talking about?

Jillyb, my doctor started me on mushies 24-48 hours after surgery. don't stress, i personally think that 2 weeks of liquids after surgery is for the doctors good "stats". visit bandmd.com and look at the post op diet. he is one of the best surgeons in the nation, you will live!

I did not pre-op prep at all. In fact I ate like there was no tomorrow. LOL. Anyways, post-op I made it 6 days, then I very carefully tried something solid. It was chinese. I am still alive.

Jilly, you're fine. Just be sure to listen very carefully to your body and if you get any signals that you're overdoing it, STOP. Do what you can to not get too hungry so you won't be tempted to eat too fast. NOW is the time to have a milkshake, if you want! :scared:

The surgeon I "was" going to puts his patients on post-op liquids for 4 days. He said people cheat anyway, so he might as well change it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
