Band Fills

Recommended Posts

Besides the fact that I don't have any insurance an can't see my doctor... I have this crippling fear of going back an seeing him especially if it comes down to getting a fill.. My last fill he did he was poking around for 15-20 minutes cause he kept missing the port which caused me terrible pain an I even started crying while he was doing it... Idk what to do I'm sure this isn't normal to have a fear/phobia that sends me into panic attacks when going to see a doctor...

I don't know how far out you are, but when you signed up for the band you knew you would have to get fills. With out the fills your band really isn't worth what you put in it.

The fear/phobia I can understand. I have an axiety disorder. Passed out during my first fill - I think half due to fear and half due to the vagus nerve. I am on meds now for anxiety, I was having phobia in several areas of my life that were really holding me down. If you are having trouble in this area seek some help, it will be the best thing you ever do for yourself.

If you only have axiety about this doctor- talk to him/her about your fear before they start the fill, their may be something they can do to help. My doctors off does fill with floro- this way there is no poking around to find the port, they know where it is and stick it the first time do the fill and I am out. Less than 5 min.

I never had a problem with the doctor finding my port or giving me a fill. A doctor should know how to easily find the port and give a fill. I did have a crazy nurse though that did me the same way as he did you and I was terrified to go back too but because of my being scared and not going, I ended up gaining a lot of weight instead of losing. I wish you the best of luck!

I'm almost two years out... An the first couple of fills he did in I was in an out in under 15 minutes cause he would take time to talk to me etc. I think it maybe him for the fear of him missing an feeling that weird feeling that caused me so much pain before

My first couple fills went well with no problem. This last one was suppose to be an unfill because I thought u was too tight. And the nurse poked me approximately 15 times and could not hit it. I started to panic and just said STOP. I am due to go back next week, I am still tight. I am going to take something for my nerves and ask several questions before she sticks. One of my question being (fluoroscopy). I am having anxiety thinking about it now. But I want to optimize my weight loss and u am not doing it with not being able to eat. I am down 70 pounds since surgery in July, I have set a goal of 100 pound by my 1 year surgerversary! My advice to you is to get your adjustment but ask questions that will ease your anxiety. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
