Hello everyone out there, I was banded on January 30,2006 and have lost to date about 36 lbs. I had my surgery in bakersfield, ca by Dr. Niak and at first I had horrible regrets. Now, I have no regrets what so ever. The pre surgery diet and post op diet really help you manage your eating habits and help you start your new life. I haven't had any complications what so ever. I was a walking heart attack waiting to happen, and now I am off all of my diabetes meds and feel healthier then ever. And it's only been 2 months. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a second chance at life.

Congratulations on your amazing progress and improved health status. Why did you regret having the surgery post-op? I am 8 days into being banded and finally starting to feel human again. LOL.

:) Hi, I am getting banded later this month. I was curious why you had initial regrets with your band?

Thanks

Well the reason why I had some regrets is because this was the first(and Hopefully the last) Time I had ever had been in the hospital or ever had surgery. I've never had a broken bone and I've always thought I was healthy. After High school and college I gained a bunch of weight, Due to not being very active, I have a desk job. I didn't like feeling limited to things. Especially being out of work. It only lasted 2 days, and then I was back to normal. I just remember sitting there watching TV with my wife and I noticed every commerial or TV show that I was watching had to do with food. It got to me because the food on TV looked a heck of a lot better then the broth I was eating. But like I said earlier, I got use to it and the hunger and cravings went away and all is well! NO REGRETS WHAT SO EVER NOW!!!. Basically I was a big baby. But when I looked at the big picture and realized that I wanted to be around for my wife and for my Kids my self pitty went away. Not to mention all of that delicious fat enduced food was the reason that I looked into getting banded. It was totally God sent. I am truely blessed for being able to get a second chance. Trust me you might feel a little resistant at first but after the first couple of days, You'll realize, This was a piece of cake. No Pun intended.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
