iv just had my lap band out on Friday at 10am I was out of surgery by 1pm and was only in a little bit of discomfort but then they gave me morphine and I was fine...I was on morphine drip for the rest of that day and night then my morphine was taken away ( morphine is amazing) I wasn't in any pain while on morphine...getting up and down was a little sore BUT just take your time moving around and it's all good! I was worried the pain would suddenly slam back into me because I was in SOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! much pain when the lap band was put in and only given Panadol/paracetamol BUT no I was tired but there was no major pain...I had lunch which was just liquids - vege juice, milk, tea, apple juice... I ended up drinking the little apple juice, the little milk and had two small cups of tea but the vege juice tasted like sh$t I was in no pain and had now been off the drugs for 5 hours i was taken off all drips etc...because I was weeing, farting, drinking plenty of Water and felt fine after my "liquid lunch" i was given 2 Panadol/paracetamol tablets and they went down fine...i asked if I could go home as I was in no pain and didnt see the point in sitting in hospital when I was fine with liquids, had no drips hooked up to me and I wasn't in any pain.....they made me eat ice cream because its a slight solid and it went down fine then I was discharged it's now Sunday morning! and I'm home I took one Panadol/paracetamol in the afternoon and then another at 9.00pm just before going to bed....iv just woken up and it's 7:51am (sunday) and I feel great I'm not in any pain getting up and down is still a slow movement but that's for the best I don't want to rip anything... for the rest of the week I'm sticking to liquids and slowly moving on the solids but taking small steps trying things like yoghurt, purée fruit etc.. I thought I was going to be in so much pain because putting the lap band in hurt so much but seriously i barely feel like if been in surgery! I'm taking a week off work to recover but my doc said I could go back after a few days :s haha but I thought I'd be on the careful side...

Expect weight gain unless you are very strict to the eating plan.

I'm scheduled for lapband removal on 1/23 due to erosion. These posts have been very helpful in letting me know what to expect afterwards so thank you for your willingness to share! Christiemr, I'm really struggling emotionally. I lost 110 pounds with the lapband and I'm really grieving the loss of the band, even though it probably hasn't been working for me for awhile. I've gained 30 pounds over the last year and I have not been able to focus or adhere to a good plan to get it off. I want to do better, I know I don't want to gain all this weight back. How are you doing now? What has helped?

I did good the first couple months....I weighed out everything I ate, I was good with exercise....then I got busy and slowly started dropping the healthy habits. I've gained about 20 but I'm scheduled for a bypass on 2/11/13 slim really just trying to maintain where I'm at and not worry about it too much. I think y saving grace is that ultimately I'm a conversion to the surgery I originally wanted! I will say I felt SO good within about a week of my band removal that I was insanely energetic. The fact thati could eat real food, good stuff, oh how my body loved it! It was totally awesome!

Good luck!!!!

Congratulations on your surgery date, I'm glad you're getting what you want. The surgeon told me that I would have to wait at least 2 months before I could even consider any surgical options. Is your insurance covering it? I haven't looked at my policy for revision surgery, is that what the 2nd surgery is considered?

I've found some motivation and am doing better recording my food in spark people and I've gotten some exercise every day this week. My plan is to stay focused but keep it simple between now and the surgery and maybe lose a few pounds. One day at a time, right?

Thanks for the reply,it's really great to talk to someone who has been through it.

My doc originally was going to convert at the time of band removal then got in and said too much damage and inflammation, he wouldn't be able to make the pouch like he wanted and it would be larger than optimal. I don't need ANYTHING larger than optimal :D. So he closed me up an said 6-12 months to heal. My surgery is 6 months and 10 days, after :) My insurance is being great. The coverage is better now than when I got the band. They're basing my BMI and comorbidities off my pre-band stats because I wouldn't qualify now. The first couple months were HELL waiting....I'm anxious to get rolling but not as overwhelmed as I was in August!!!

That's awesome! I understand about the waiting, the month of waiting for the surgery has been long but I know I just need to get it out. I'm excited for you and will be anxious to hear how you adjust after this new surgery. Sending the best to you!

Good morning everyone:

Just a quick update. I had my pre-op physical yesterday so everything is a go for band removal next week. I also had an appointment with the therapist that works with patients from the weight management program. It was helpful to talk through what's happened and better understand the loss I am feeling about the band. She made the comment that I've probably given it a little too much "power" over my weight loss or gains. She's probably right. I didn't make another appointment but it is nice to know that the resource is there if I need it. I'm hoping that after the band is out, I'll be able to put it behind me and move forward. As to the eating plan, I decided to take advantage of the January special and join nutrisystem. I thought the idea of having a set eating plan before the surgery and afterwards would be a help. Just one less thing to stress about. I'm a rule follower, which is probably why the lapband worked so well for me! :) The good news is that I lost 4 pounds in the first week so I am happy about that! Hope everyone else is well and moving in a forward direction too!

Take care,

Anita

@ Siemers17. I see it's been a while. My band was removed for the same reason but the trapped gas, bloating, etc has never stopped. Do you have that now?

Heya looking some advice. I had a gastric band fitted 3 years ago however it started causing me problems within the last 6 months and so i got the Fluid all taken out. I got the band removed as i wanted to return to normal and try and eat normally again, so i got the band removed sunday 6th september 2015 and its been 4 days and im having difficulties swallowing foods and sometimes fluids, in the mornings nothing is able to pass but evening time its more relaxed. Surgeon said 1 week should be ok but this isnt getting better so does anyone remember when they were able to eat after the removal. Im really worried.

I go in tomorrow for my post removal checkup.

One doctor at my EGD said I had a small hernia, the surgeon at the removal said they didn't see one. whose lying? These doctors annoy me so much. They did say without hesitation my liver looks perfect. My concern is with a possible hernia or dilation left untreated. I am asking for all surgery reports and medical records. I really hope the doctors correct. I asked the nursing assistant how could there not be a hernia she stated sometimes when the band is removed the bulge settles back to its normal state. HMMM???

Today's the day to go and visit with the doctor since removal. I really feel they left me with a small hernia. I have coughing at night. I am trying to be calm. This means going back into surgery and pay additional money to have this corrected. And mind you more scars and cuts. UGH! The good news is I'm down 9 pounds since the band has come out. That band was the devil. Now I must save for a plastic surgeon to correct these scars. I'm pissed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
