In the beginning my dr advises to sip as you learn what your band will and won't tolerate. Now I still sip. I cannot really take huge gulps and be comfortable.

I don't think it actually will hurt anything tho if you gulp ...just make sure it's not carbonated.

I am like floridays, I can't do a big gulp, it gets stuck and makes me uncomfortable. i don't think that you can damage anything after you have had the band for awhile, but I would not try it too soon after surgery. Sipping is very satisfying for me. Karen

i asked my surgeon and jeanie this very question

nope, you cant stretch it (as it goes right through)

however, if you are newly banded and still swollen, it can cause

discomfort....so best to sip or take little drinks

Personally I like to think of the band creating a funnel. If your drinking Water it's not going to break the funnel but it will take longer for it to pass through then if you were just pouring it straight into a container. So if I take a long drink at the gym sometimes it takes a little longer for it to pass through but it does pass.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
