seeme1954 32 Posted December 1, 2012 Hi I had the lapband 5 weeks ago. It's early in the game so I can't really judge how it is working. My 20 year old daughter is scheduled for January. Now I'm wondering if I should have her have the sleeve because it seems easier and she has more to lose. Any advise wouldaappreciateappreciatedp
Toddy 758 Posted December 1, 2012 My surgeon says sleeve is better for diabetics if that helps any.
kyrasgrandma 228 Posted December 1, 2012 How does she feel about the sleeve? Ultimately it is her decision. I picked the band because I didnt want my stomach cut and isnt it cut in half vertically with the sleeve.
sarawray 44 Posted December 1, 2012 How about both, you can get lapband with plication, that is where they sew up your stomach, instead of cutting it. I have it and I really love it.
seeme1954 32 Posted December 1, 2012 My surgeon said he doesn't do plication. 1 Banderina reacted to this
Skyvic 226 Posted December 1, 2012 It depends I suppose. I don't really know enough about sleeve. However, I am a quantity eater and the band worked for me, I ate less, not much bread or stuff that got me fat in first place. She may have to really ask those kinds of questions. I have a friend who is very successful on sleeve.
aloudwhisper 176 Posted December 5, 2012 There have been times that I have considered the sleeve, but decided to really give my band a chance. I have a friend that had the band and she's done great. You don't really have to work the sleeve, the way you work the band. The sleeve works for you. My friend doesn't work out. I am ok with my band now though. I think you should think more about the options for your daughter. How old is she?
seeme1954 32 Posted December 5, 2012 My daughter is 19 so I am worried about her being cut up so young .
honk 780 Posted December 5, 2012 My concern is actually that you appear to be making a decision for her. Is she a competent adult? If so this is NOT your decision. NO weight loss surgery will work for someone who is not committed to making healthy food choices/portions. There are people who get band over bypass because the bypass didn't work for them. aloudwhisper 176 Posted December 5, 2012 I totally get that. The band can help her develop a healthy relationship with food. Because the process is slow, she can develop skills that will help her for the rest of her life. Have you guys talked about the options?
seeme1954 32 Posted December 5, 2012 Yes. She is researching but is confused. I think you would have to work with sleeve also.
aloudwhisper 176 Posted December 6, 2012 I really think it depends on the person's mindset and motivation. The band is really not for everyone. As much as I thought I would get the surgery and be down by the first year it hasn't happen. I know it will cause I'm not giving up, but its not the time frame that I expected. The sleeve has really helped a lot of people. Its a great option. It can work if one is willing to work it.
aloudwhisper 176 Posted December 6, 2012 You also don't have to work as hard.
