What about a clothes swap???

Recommended Posts

I brought this up in another thread, so I thought I'd just make it a topic on its own. Has anyone ever thought of doing some kind of clothes swap through a posting board on here?? I know I've gone down 2 sizes and what now might not work for me, might help someone else through the "pass-thru" sizes. We are all at so many different stages and don't really plan on staying there, it doesn't make sense to pay alot of money for new clothes that we're not gonna stay in long. Sooo, anyone else have any thoughts on this or how it might work. I had one response in another thread that a group in Mesquite met and did this. Would love to hear some pros/cons and see whatcha think!

Well, we have one at the Bandster bash in Vegas, but other people just post what they have available. Some folks have suggested setting up a freecycle sort of forum, which would be pretty cool.

I actually have a board built for clothing exchanges - used it when I belonged to an Atkins diet board and sort of "willed" it to them when I left, but I have a clone of it on my home server.

If you guys would be interested, it wouldn't take more than an hour or so to get it up & running. Right now it's just like a regular message board, only instead of "general" and "Lounge" it's "Size 28", "Size 26", etc. All of that's 100% changeable and could be made to reflect whatever we wanted... separate "available" areas, "wanted" areas...

ohh...i think that is a neat idea. a clothes exchange would be nice, I have a lot of almost new stuff that I never wore because my weight fluctuates so much.

it woudl be cool to have a common area to go to when ytou have clothes you need to get rid of or want to find. That would be an awesome idea. WAY TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX WHEETSIN!

I like Wheetsin's idea of an area where you can post.... kind of like freecycle. If we can use what you've already got developed, that would be great. Since I'm pretty new here, is there anything any particular we have to ask the moderator or is it just something you'd set up????

It's already set up. If everyone was OK with it, we could just get a link to it. It would depend on what the admin is willing to do. She/he may prefer to do their own thing. I've seen it work both ways, so it's just a matter of personal preference.

When you say admin, does that mean the moderator? (again, I new to this stuff) :-) Do we just notify them directly and ask??

No, an admin is above a moderator. Moderators can usually just move posts, delete, edit... maintenance type duties. They also usually have access to forums that no one else can see - for discussing board issues out of the public eye. Admins have full control of the board. They can create forums, setup user groups, disallow/ban, etc. The admin is usually the "owner" and the moderators are the "helpers" that do the day-to-day stuff on the board.

Typically the easiest way to get in touch with an admin is througha moderator. :scared: Not sure which mod would be the best to contact for this issue, but we can ask them to "give the message" and find out what the admin would prefer.

I'd love to see a place where we could exhange clothes. I have sooo many clothes that hopefully I'm going to be outgrowing soon.

A lot of my clothes are from Lane Bryant and I hate to just throw out all that money. I love their clothes, but I can't wait to be able to shop somewhere else again...as long as I can still find those stretch jeans. I love Lane Bryant's jeans so much, I'm spoiled now. I can't imagine going back to regular jeans. In fact, I love the way all their clothes fit. I'm gonna have to learn how to clothes shop all over again, and find some new stores.

Back on subject...I vote for the message board or whatever would be easiest to get our 'too big now' clothes to someone who can put them to good use for a little while longer. :clap2:

Glad you know what we're doing!:scared: Do you want to contact the moderator or want me to? Do you know specifically who to send the email to?

I'll look into it. Earlier I saw an area for suggestions/improvements... maybe the admin posted that. I'll have a look and see what we can figure out to do. :scared:

Oops, found the thread and it looks like they're already working on one.

- New LBT forum skin design

- Photo Gallery

- Fix journals

- Clothes exchange

- Our own Tickers geared for Bandsters.

- Surgery dates

- Angel feature

(BTW, I only know this stuff b/c DH and I run three messageboards... I admin one and moderate the other two) :scared:

Alrighty, then. I guess we'll wait and see what they get worked out. I would think that lots of folks could benefit from this. Thanks for the offer of working on it! We'll keep a look out for the exchange!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
