Day 4 Help Needed ! I Hope It Is A Little Bump In The Road

Recommended Posts

Thanks to all that responded to my earlier post. I was banded on Monday and had to stay in the hospital until Wed afternoon due to severe nausea. I have had severe diarrhea since I came home on Wed. Yesterday I changed clothes 7 times. The doctor's office called to check in and they said if I still had it today to call and come in. Unfortunately it is back. They put me on full liquids ( no Protein shakes) and I have to call back if I still have it this afternoon.

My husband is worried and not that great with illness. He made a stupid comment about why I put myself thru all this. I know why and I don’t regret my decision but I am a little down now. I know that this will pass soon and I will be back on track and I know my husband is saying stupid things out of worry.

Has anyone had a similar situation? Any suggestions?

i had this also (and asked my dr about taking immodium ad) and i could and it def helped as did taking a probiotic to help...you can very easily get dehydated so you MUST sip alot to not get that way. fluids in and fluids are coming out. btw, i have a change of clothes here at work from june so i understand.

I too, had to take Imodium chewable and it worked almost instantly. Like CG said, sip a lot of Water to keep from dehydrating.

Sounds like you have your hub figured out and of course after surgery your nerves will be on edge. Try to ignore his comments, or calmly explain that comments like that are not really helping you and how you know he's worried.

This too will all pass! Hang on!

First off, stay calm as possible. You body just went through a major surgery, it takes time to adjust. I also had horrible upset tummy to begin with. Please continue to stay in contact with your doctor, you do not want to get dehydrated. Sip as much Water as possible, if you can't get that down call the doctor you may need IV fluids.

Everyone is on target with keeping yourself hydrated, the one thing you should be doing the most. Yes, as said by the posters, take immodium.

Water and gatorade can help tremendously, both will replenish all the electrolites back you are losing. Even though you are not able to drink alot all at once, you have to remind yourself to sip alllllllllllll day long. Have a cup of Water with you at all times. Possibly one that has ounces on the side so you can physically see how much liquid you are drinking.

Best of luck to you hon :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
