Cereal/whole Wheat Toast/pasta/rice

Recommended Posts

Hi all I know This cray since I am only almost 2 weeks post up but I was just wondering if we ever able to eat the mentioned foods. Of course in moderation. But is this something band friendly. TIA

I don't regret any decision in my life because at the end I will make it work

You can eat whatever your band will tolerate, you SHOULD be careful with empty carbohydrate calories. Always eat your Protein first! Some bandsters have problems with rice and Pasta, other don't. Focus on multigrain pasta, and brown rice, but only after your protein and healthy carbs ( veggies)

Everyone is different. Some can eat anything they want; others have stuff they can't eat. Personally, I stay away from Pasta and rice. Sometimes I can eat bread; other times I can't. I've never been a Cereal eater, so I don't know about that one.

Each person react differently to the band. Like previously stated becareful with carb calories. Be sure when you do eat carbs they are complex carbs, like those in whole wheat breads and cereals.

I do eat cereal each morning for breakfast- Special K with 2% Milk. This does fill me up and last for at least 4 hours. I eat pastas and rice sometimes (just not much at a time and in whole wheat varities). I have a friend who has difficulty with rice- she says it's like it swells in her belly and makes her not feel well.

Everyone is diffrent so to an extent you will have to wait till you are on normal food and see what works for you. Also, be aware that what works in the begining may not work in the future. I could eat soft breads in the begining, but not at all anymore they get stuck. Just always take SMALL bites and CHEW.

i agree with the above posters..those items you listed do not fill you up and i find if you eat more filling foods, you will stay fuller/satisfied longer.

and only 2 weeks post op, you should be on or just finishing up liquids and going into mushies..is this on your dr's instructions for post op?

I am 2 months out and can eat special k w banana's - I haven't tried any other cereal, but with milk, I would imagine it would be okay. I eat my bread toasted including sandwiches and have had Pasta (2x - ravioli). I have not tried rice. I am not at restriction and I would imagine that I could eat soft bread and rice right now, but just haven't. I have yet to try beef or pork, but again, imagine that right now, I could eat either.

It will definitely depend on you and your band. For me soft breads don't work well, nor do flour tortilla even in moderation. However, I am able (slowly and small bites) eat drier breads (toast or flatbread/pizza crust) ok. Rice doesn't work well for me anymore either but I make Quinoa the same way I would make rice and it works fine, tastes very similar to me and has a TON of great nutrition (incl. protein). :) Also, Pasta I can eat but small bites and slowly as well. I would HIGHLY recommend when you do get to that point and want to try it, to try multigrain Pasta. It has a lot of Protein (more than whole grain), tastes better than whole grain, etc. So it will be the best of both worlds. :)

Good luck and keep the great attitude that you will make it work no matter what foods you can or cannot have.

The only bread product I can tolerate without getting stuck are crotons.

When we go out to eat I always ask for a small bowl. When everyone else is eating bread I do not feel left out. It also gives me the satisfying crunch feeling. Hugs.

Its such an individual thing....

I can eat Cereal and whole wheat bread / toast. Pasta is dicey... as its a slider and hard to get it all chewed. Rice is not a good choice for me. I love it and try it all the time but it rarely agrees with me.

Of course I keep my portions in tact... no more than a 1/4 c of starch per meal.

I have a problem i don't have any eating issues...meaning i could eat anything...small bits of pizza or Cookies and i even had thanksgiving pies...the only good thing is that im still losing some weight ...but fear this could be bad in the future...do i need my first fill?

That's not a problem. The band isn't supposed to physically stop you from eating anything, so don't expect it to. It's up to you to control what and how much you eat, not the band. Here's a link to better explain it: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

You need a fill if you're not satisfied on a cup or less of food for at least 4 hours without hunger.

I usually eat a cup of Special K Cereal with skim plus milk (it has more protein) for Breakfast with a greek yogurt.

I eat occasional brown or small wheat Pasta. I don't like it so it is not too often. Definitely an acquired taste.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
