How Often Do You Get Stuck?

Recommended Posts

How often do you get stuck to the point of having to thow up?

This happens to me quite easily. I get stuck and have to throw it up about 1-2 times a week.

I would say that 50% of the time it is because I ate something too dry, or did not chew enough, or ate too quickly beacuse I got too hungry.

However, the other 50% of the time I don't really know what causes the stuck insident. I appear to be somewhat sensitive. Things like tuna w/ff mayo, or very small bites of moist salmon get stuck). Yet, the next day I can eat an apple with peanutbutter (slowly and a lot of chewing, but I can do it). I can eat nuts, but can't eat mashed fish with mayo - strange?

Fortunately, healthy shakes and Greek yogert, Water, Soup and mush foods do go down just fine.

(I was banded in June, 2012) Any thoughts or similar experiences?

I get stuck at least once a week. Dr didn't seem concerned. Usually mine is from not chewing enough. I hate to admit it but, I have been avoiding a lot of Protein rich foods bc of it.

Oh, also, I can eat nuts too but not certain mushies. Go figure. I think it's bc the soft food gets clumped together at the band.

well, I just had 2cc's removed because I'm having my gallbladder removed Monday but prior to that I was actually going in to see my surgeon because he thought I had too much in my band. I get stuck at least once a week. Like you tho, it is because I get too hungry, rush and eat too big of a bite, don't chew well or something dry. With that said, however, I was able to eat fish, tuna, chicken in tee tiny bites or canned chicken, don't do hamburger meat except for Wendy's chili, I eat greek yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken/cheese low fat of course quesadilla that I fix at home (the smallest tortilla), eggs, no bread, no Pasta, no rice, I am able to eat veggies, cooked, not raw, salads. But like you, I do get stuck but again, I think it is due to me being used to eating habits of the way I used to eat. I'm still learning and think I will continue to learn my band.

I was recently bumped up to 9 CCs which the doctor said there may be a chance I can't even swallow my own spit. But I seem to be doing fine eating. Now I seem to get stuck though and threw up. looks like I gotta start chewing like there's no tomorrow.

Wow! I would be scared if my surgeon told me I might not be able to swallow my own spit! I get stuck when eating the wrong foods. Steak is one of them. I tried to have my favorite on Thanksgiving, some turkey skin. Don't even try that stuff, you can't digest it! Also, casings for pork sausage is undigestable even if you chew, chew chew your food. These things I found from bad experiences! Bets wishes to all and Rojasnoll, you are a lucky one! Karen

I tend to get stuck weekly. I don't really throw it up, more like have productive burps that brings it back up. I don't loose everything I ate. I tend to do it when I eat to fast and don't chew well enough. Also I have learned that bread is not my friend- I try to avoid it, but when I really want it I take tiny bites and CHEW!

I was getting stuck a lot more then Id like to admit to.....but hind site it was due to eatting to fast and that was because I was so hungry...

For me it hurt so bad the last time then I have learned the hard way to eat slow...and nothing else while eatting....with 5 kids thats alot of work most meals !

Now Id say if i get stuck or that full feeling once a week its alot.....I to cant eat many fishes..unless I dip each bite in all natural apple sauce...

Its all trial and errar......we can do it !

I agree sounds like too full to me also. I think I have gotten stuck once and because I wasn't paying attention.

Only get stuck when I don't pay attention. Maybe 4 times in 13 months. Oh.. I and I do not recommend flour tortillas microwaved until they are nice and soft! LMAO

Do you have stuck episodes with the sleeve or bypass?

I've been stuck twice in 2 1/2 years. Once with chicken skin and once with bread. Ive not eaten either since. I really don't like getting sick and I guess pre-surgery my doc put the fear into me that everytime I did vomit, I could be doing damage to my band.

I'm a tiny, and I mean TINY bite eater and only eat at the table; never in front of the tv or standing at the counter. Takes a lot of discipline but keeps my head out of the toilet

Do you have stuck episodes with the sleeve or bypass?

I had a sleeve revision in August and have had 2 stuck episodes since then, for the exact same reasons as they happened when I was banded - eating too fast, not chewing enough, taking bites that were too big.

I've heard that bypass patients can also get stuck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
