im 27 years old and i have surgery next week. i never knew finding someone to go with me and someone to watch my kids would be so difficult. ( 2 girls ages 3 and 7months ) im not nervous for the surgery, ive had many for other reasons. im more concerned about the after. the managing of my 7month old. or going back to work as a assistant manager of a fastfood chain. im 5'1 and my bed stands at 4'8 i worry about getting in and out of bed, will i miss a step or get in wrong. and then i worry most of all who will stay with me during the day until i can pick up my 19lb baby girl who is teething and ive always done baby wearing and i wont be able to. meh. i look forward to sharing my progress, and hopefully these nerves go down. walking 5miles is nothing to me now. riding a bike is easy. the liquids have been a peice of cake '( no pun intended )' i dont miss pizza or Pasta or bread. ive done fine without it.

Hi Marybell - My surgery is Dec. 6. I'm very excited for us both. I'm nervous about lifting things as well though I don't have any kids. My job requires it.

How often do you ride your bike? That is something I really want to do but I have to buy a bike first! Where did you get yours?

Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
