DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted November 28, 2012 Most surgeons say no carbonation ever. Carbonation can lead to a stretched pouch as well as slips. 5 DesertRose80, zinhaa, LadyMaggie and 2 others reacted to this
tendsley 2 Posted November 28, 2012 Mine is fine with carbonation as long as its diet soda and it can be tolerated , and I don't have a problem with it gong down nor does most of my family that has the lapband, I do know a few friends that can't ever drink it or only on some days
tere1985 16 Posted November 28, 2012 Mine is ok with it, i have tried it a couple of times but every time I drink carbonated drinks I hurt like if I was having a bad stuck episode. I heard it could cause stretched pouch and even a slip! So carbonation is no longer in my life I rather stay away. It's not worth it! Maddysgram 6,159 Posted November 28, 2012 My Dr also does not allow carbonation. I used to drink only Dt.Mt Dew and since surgery I don't even miss it. Matter of fact, I prefer plain Water now. 1 DesertRose80 reacted to this

CHEZNOEL 4,061 Posted November 28, 2012 Just say no to carbonation. It can cause band erosion. 1 DesertRose80 reacted to this
FLORIDAYS 3,040 Posted November 29, 2012 There are 3 rules you need to accept if you become a patient of my dr. The first is no carbonation ...ever. He said a sip of champagne now and then would be ok...but other than that I had to agree to eliminate it from my vocabulary. So I had a funeral for my beloved diet coke and what Stinks is my hubby drinks it like Water so it's always in the fridge. But I just ignore it.
Allen J. Oh 7 Posted December 3, 2012 I had my last pre-surgery appointments with my nurse and surgeon Thursday and Friday, and both of them emphasized that I should have no carbonation, ever. Basically it sounded like I would be risking a world of hurt, but the more serious issue is band slippage. I love pop, but it's not worth the risk. My dietician recommends Mio. I like it. Not as much as pop, but it will do.
Banderina 69 Posted December 3, 2012 Floridays what are the other two rules?
Bruinfan 2 Posted December 5, 2012 I've spent hours and hours researching this, from what I've been told and what I"ve researched the carbonation has very little to any effect on the band in regards to causing slippage or erosion. I don't really drink sodas anymore anyways not due to the band but due to my lifestyle change. However, on occasion I do but primarily I do drink beer and there has been absolutely no issues. My best friend has had the band for 4 years and he drinks diet soda religiously with ZERO negative effect on his band and he's lost 100lbs and maintained it for 2.5 years now.. I personally would not believe the hype.. My doctor whom I consider very well experienced stated the true reason is most doctors want their patience off carbonation is due to assisting with weightloss. Truly diet soda and regular soda are horrible for you anyways so why even go there..
meyouus 415 Posted December 6, 2012 I was banded five years ago, surgeon said carbonation is fine but even better flat. I've been a regular SF/ CF Coke drinker for those five years, no problems.
