Scheduling Fills With A Heavy Travel Schedule

Recommended Posts

I think I've asked this before but I can't find it anywhere. I own my own business and have a super heavy travel schedule, which also means having a super heavy "at-home" time. I will have 9 weeks off after surgery but then I'll be gone for 8 weeks. Surgery is 12/5, first fill will be around 1/16 and second fill around 1/30. I will leave town for the 8 weeks immediately after that second fill and am not planning on being home during that time. My doc's office keeps telling me that it's fine to be gone that long and not get my 3rd fill until I get back, but I'm starting to worry that I WILL need a 3rd and maybe even a 4th fill during those 8 weeks. Should I plan on flying home to get those fills or just "tough it out" for 2 months? As a side note, they will prepare an "emergency unfill kit" (whatever that is) to carry with me and direct me to a local surgeon in the area where I'll be in the event that I need an unfill.

I only went in for a fill every 6 weeks and there were a few I skipped, so sometimes it was every 12 weeks. I think you will be fine. Also, I have heard from people who are traveling by plane with the band that it feels tighter anyway. It has something to do with the cabin air pressure, the same way it effects your ears. So, you may even fill tighter than you actually are. Good luck!

My clinc does fills every 4-6 weeks. I live 6hrs away so sometimes it is 4 sometimes it is 6, you should be fine if you are following the rules.

i havent had a fill since mid-September due to my schedule and my doc's schedule. i think i would have lost more at this point if i had a fill last month, but i'm not in any rush. i think you'll be fine and you can get your 3rd fill when your back from traveling. (i'm getting my 3rd fill today hopefully)

My dr doesnt really have a fill schedule...he decided on a fill based on my feedback and how well I am losing. I was banded 12/9. I thought I was having my first fill in January and ended up having it in February because I was losing so well. Then I had another in April and one in May when I finally hit the green zone.

Granted the time before hitting the green zone is pure willpower even tho you willhave some restriction... so you could tough it out until you get home or the other option would be to wait and see. If you find you are really needing a fill you could schedule a quicky trip at that time.

And BTW... I have no idea what an emergency kit is either.

I Travel alot for work, sometimes I am gone 2 week sometimes 2 months, I just call the Dr. office when I find out I will be gone and they ask when I can come in again and i reschedule. have been banded 1 yr 5 mths and have had just 5 fills! It works for me!

I have never heard of an emergency unfill kit before! WOW

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
