Will This Time Be Different?

Recommended Posts

So as i start putting away clothes that are too big now i ask myself How will this time be any different? Have had weight loss success b4 but never kept it off for long. I want this to be the last time. But how? Banded 10/10. Lost 35 need to lose 60 more. Happy but sad it could just be another failure. How can I make sure this time is different? Btw Im 51 and too old and tired to do this again! :)

I am 52 and once I made the decision to be banded I never looked back. SUrgery was a drastic step for me... it was going to work and I never thought it wouldnt. As I grew out of clothes I donated them. I do not have one stitch of clothing which is too big for me now. I am almost to goal... and I have decided I will never be fat again. Its that simple. I have a tool to help me in the band and I have a scale. I covet both and I will never... I repeat never let myself get out of control again.

I know exactly how you feel! After years of yo-yo dieting, I've put four Rubbermaid tubs of Fat Clothes in the attic. I wish I had the confidence to just toss them! I promised myself that when I've kept the weight off for two years, they're out of here!!

You make a life style change. you eat healthy and you make it a permanent thing. There is no going back to old habits or we will be right back where we started. Once at goal... moderation will be key.

LOL... hoping this is the path I will follow!

it will work this time as long as you learn along the way and get those fill as soon as u need then specially in the beginning...it took me 3 and I never hungry any more the first time in my life and I love I will stay this way no matter what happens I am so worth it and so r u. u can get a fill every two wks if you need it don't wait if you need it I did and felt the way you do now and there is no reason that is the great thing about the band it really does help a ton.

I am 23 years old. In oct of 2011 I got my band put in. Over the course of the year I slipped 4 times. Sept of 2012 I got a whole reconstructive revision of my band. I wasn't ready to give up on the band yet. They offered me the sleeve and I declined. I am trying so hard to really succeed this time around... Yesterday was my 3rd tightening since surgery. I now have 8.5cc's in me. And I feel like this 1 did it. As I drink I'm getting full but what effects me is that empty feeling in my stomach. I am doing all support groups and trying my very best this time. I hope this is a new journey!! Just sharing my story for support ;)

As you pack away the old clothes , pack away all your old ways of thinking. This is different you have something inside you that will help you not be hungry, It has worked and it will continue to work.

The only thing that gets in your way is your head . Find other things to do instead of eating and thinking about food. It takes time to learn to think positive thoughts about yourself after years of wishing you were thin.

I gave away everything but one outfit I thought I looked kinda cute in. And now I just look at it and shake my head... For me when I look at that outfit and old fat pictures I realize that there is just no way I will let that pain and defeat back into my life. I am the one that controls that , and nothing I ever ate taste better than being thin and happy with that success.

I think in the far back of my brain it says the same thing to me "will this be the last time" My band tells me ohh yea, this will be the last time. Maybe its fear I have knowing I have this plastic thing around my stomache and I don't want anything to happen to it. Seriously, my thoughts about my band does put things into perspective for me. Not to mention I HATE having surgery as it scares me to death! I had a big surgery many years ago on my hip with I had it replaced, I was put under for over 4 hours and I had to have a blood transfusion. I was petrified back then and having the band was MY choice. My hip replacement I had no choice, my femur bone was completely gone and the fragment of bones left was rubbing against my pelvis just chipping away at my bones. I was really messed up, I couldn't walk!

I have to honestly say, having Lapband surgery was the best decision I ever made for myself.....

I have that mindset as well.... I had a medical device installed in my body by by choice... there is NO WAY I am going to do anything to jeopordize its ability to function the way it was intended. Having a band issue scares me to death.

I wondered the same thing. I am 61 and am also too tired to go through it again.

So this time IT IS GOING TO WORK because we have the tool to make it happen :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
