New! Trying To Decide If This Is Right For Me!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

My name is Hanna. I am 21 years old. I have started looking into the Lap Band for the past few months. I just go new insurance and just started looking into surgeons! I have heard nothing but great things about the lap band. I have struggled with my weight for my entire life. I've tried every diet under the sun, personal trainers and everything in between. Nothing works! I have goals that I want to live for! I think the Lap Band is the thing I need.

Welcome! I got banded 3 wks ago, but the decision-process took me about 2 years to decide, get insurance approval (that was only 6 mo) and get it scheduled. Best decision I have made for myself ever! This is a great forum to get good insight! Good luck!

Hi Hbanana,

I congratulate you for taking charge of your life and facing your problem head on. and you have your age on your side. Talk to your surgeon or if you can several surgeons, they will give you a better perspective on what procedure to choose from. It all depends on your weight, your age, your health and what you will feel more comfortable with, be honest with your doctor and with yourself and once you make a decision, give it 100%

I really hope you make the right decision and wish you the best, I will be more than glad to share my experiences and you're definitely in the right place

Welcome ! Having the lap band was the best decision I have ever made!

Do lots of research and be prepared with lots of questions when you go to see your surgeon.

It took me a whole year to decide to do it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
