Poss. Tmi / About Tom And Band

Recommended Posts

I'm 46 and am peri-menopausal. I haven't had my period since January. I've since forgotten when you get the signals that you have your period. Do they come before? Do they come during the period or do they come after? I never remembered to write down my TOM schedule.

The reason I ask is twofold. (if you're a man, get off this thread!) My breasts feel like they weigh 20 lbs each, my nips feel like they've been freeze dried and are about to crumble at the slightest touch, my abdomen is killing me. At what point of menstruation do these types of signals occur? BECAUSE...

I notice my band feels "tighter" during this time. And I have gotten stuck more than I care to think about. It's worse in the morning, some liquids even made me feel stuck. Can the band get tighter before, during and/or after your period?

I'd love to hear what you say, it would be nice if I could predict my life better.

Yes, my band definitely gets tighter the week before my period. It usually goes back to normal by the 2nd or 3rd day after I start.

Here's an interesting (but crappy lol) fact- when you're peri-menopausal, you can go through all the PMS symptoms without actually getting your period. I know, it sucks right? It's because your hormones are still doing some fluctuating, even though your ovulation is slowing down or stopping.

So, you can have all the symptoms of PMS without actually getting your period.

Don't ya love being a woman? ;)

Yes I have problems with tightness too. I all of the sudden kept getting stuck on foods for a week and kept wondering what is going on. So when I went in for my last fill I asked about this and my nut said it is pretty common and her advice is that you can drink some hot tea 20-30 minutes before you eat to help "loosen' It up, I have not tried it yet, but may next time.

I had my last period during my pre op diet.....how weird is that.... It just stopped coming. I went to the obgyn after I missed the 2nd period because I was sure I was pregnant.... Not likely at 50 but crazier things have happened. She thought the surgery just delayed it awhile and told me to wait until 6 months post op and if I hadn't had it...come in for blood work. Which I did... And turns out she thinks the surgery sped up my menopause.... Because my estrogen level was very low. Well here I am almost 2 yrs post op and it never returned.

So... In your case your body could be just jumbled up and you might get it again...or not. I would make an appoint ment with the GYN to get a feel for what's going on.

I hadn't had my period for over 20 years. I had my surgery and now it comes every 30 days!! Why did I ever miss it!!! YES, my band does crazy things the days before my period and the first few days of my period. Foods I could typically eat, I can't and there are times when I have to do a day or two of all liquids just to get through. Start tracking things and you will see patterns. I was driving myself crazy with wonder/fear until I started journaling and started to see patterns each month!

Thanks,

I am glad that I'm not the only one who experiences these things!

So I have many, many more years to look forward to? Missy, it does suck!

About the weight gain, I have a conundrum...I gained 10 pounds OVERNIGHT! I imagined you could gain a few, but 10?

The weight gain is not real...10 pounds overnight would have meant you overrate by 35,000 calories. In a banded belly, I don't see how that would be possible.

Drink your Water, get Protein in through shakes...ride it out and you'll likely drop the 10lbs plus extra :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
