I've lost 35 pounds since I had surgery on August 9th. I was very happy with my weight loss until I talked with a close friend who also had lapband done a few years ago. When she asked how much I had lost I said 35 lbs and she said oh ok, that's ok, someone else I know isn't really losing weight either... Now I feel like a failure... So is 35 lbs in 3 and a half months not a good weight loss? I just want to cry...

I think your supposed to loose 1-2lbs a week, the more you weigh though initially the more you lose , weight loss will steady it's self out. Don't be disheartened, your on the road to success and already you weigh 35lbs less! I'd say that was a result! :-) x

As previously noted 1 to 2 pounds a week is what most doctors expect. Someone's start weight is also going to affect how quickly they lose. I have lost 100 pounds pre op so I've been a slower for loser. It also took me 6 months to get restrictions. Overall I average half pound a week or less at this point. Another thing to consider is activity level. Often people who do a lot of exercising lose faster. Even though I exercise 1 to 2 hours a day 7 days a week I'm still a slow loser.

Hi Suzanne, your weight loss is right on target! Excellent job! OMG, the things people say when they have absolutely NO clue to what they are talking about! MY goodness, -35 lbs is a lot of friggin' sticks of butter hon! ((hugs))

I think 35 pounds is a lot!!!! That's the weight of my son and he is heavy to carry around.

I also heard about 1-2 pounds per week. You are doing that.

I'm sure you feel better than you did 35 pounds ago?

Next time say, did you express this negativity to her also?

I wish that people had a "mute"button that I could use when they say stupid things! 35 pounds is great, no matter what your acquaintance says!

Be proud of yourself because you know- you can lose weight, but you can't lose stupidity!

I think your friend is lousy with math. Pay no attention to mathematically impaired people.

I had heard 1-2 pounds a week is expected and/or about 10 pounds per month … so either way you are right on target! :D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
