Counting Down The Days!

Recommended Posts

Thursday i will have my final appointment for my dr supervised diet. I am nervous, excited, anxious, REALLY Excited..This has been the longest month EVER. I am trying to not get TOO excited because I know how difficult insurance companies can be, so I just hope they dont throw anymore hoops at me to jump through because this girl is tired! :) I really just can not wait for the phone calling saying that insurance says I am good to go and I can breathe a sigh of relief. I am just so scared they are going to make it difficult because they can. Anyway - havent posted in a week or so, just wanted to vent to all my peeps out there :)

Have an awesome day everyone!

Candace! that's exciting!!! I'm right there with ya, just have one more appt to go in December. Then its all up to the insurance folks. I, like you, am very nervous that for whatever reason they will deny me. But I'm trying to be positive and just know that everything will fall into place! Good luck girl! keep us posted!

If they deny you fight back with a appeal letter. I was denied the first time around. That same day I wrote an appeal letter faxed & mailed it within 8-10 days I was approved. I called Oxford every other day. Never give up the things you really want. #banded12/22/10

My appointment was yesterday. Lost 3 lbs in a month and glad its done! I almost punched the doctor in his nose though. i am not too fond of this doctor anyway, i just used him for my signatures because he is closer than my PCP. Well He asked if I had met with the surgeon yet and which surgery I wanted to have. I told him lap band and he laughed..YES laughed! I just looked at him. He said why lap band, to which I explained my reasoning and one of them being, it's less invasive. He says "its less effective, If I were going to have surgery I would make sure it was going to work" I said regardless of what WLS there is, you have to work it to maintain it. He just laughed at me. I was so pissed! Who the hell is he to tell me what I should and should not do..I am so glad I am done with him. Now I wait! Sorry had to vent about an ignorant doctor.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
