Thrift shops...........

Recommended Posts

I got back from Georgia last Thursday. While I was there, I got my Grandma out of the house & we hit the consignment shops & thrift stores. WOW!! I came home with 2 trash bags full of clothes for a little over $100! I found 2 pair of new Eddie Bauer jeans for $5 a piece!! I couldn't believe it. :faint: Second hand stores rock!! I just wanted to tell everyone about this. I know how expensive it can get when you have to buy a new wardrobe every couple of months. Good luck hunting!

I have found the best value to be Clothes Swaps for the lap band surgery support group. We all bring our clothes that are in good condition to share with each other. the cost...an entry fee of two canned goods; which are donated to a local food bank. the left over clothes are then given to another local charity who gives out clothing to needy familes and to the homeless. you go home with a new wardrobe for free and charities benifit from it too.:clap2:

You can enjoy things even more when they were a good deal, can't you! I have purchased a lot of my clothes on eBay and will continue as I lose weight. Hav e gotten some really nice things very reasonably but can't match your jeans story! I love thrift shops, too.

The best part of it all was buying size 18-20s!!! I can't get in them yet, but they are the next size I will be wearing. I haven't been that size in like 16 or 17 years!!! I can't wait! I was actually a size 18 from the 5th grade up until I met Lonnie. It'll be amazing when I get there!! Don't worry, I'll let you all know when it happens.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
