Where To Get Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a experienced known surgeon and in a clean hospital without sky high prices and a great aftercare package. I'm in UK London funding myself and happy to travel. 20 years old saving myself and very unhappy. Determined for change with the hopes of being healthy and being able to have a child in later life

If you want to come to Florida in the USA I would reccomend my surgeon but I am guess that's not what you had in mind. We have some people on here from the UK so hopefully they can help.

I've asked my British friend to answer your post. Hope she's able to help you. You're smart to research all of this in advance. I see so many people leave the country to have surgery, come home and only then ask, "Now what?"

Good luck!

Jean

Hi. Jean asked me to look in and answer your thread.

I was banded ( a long time ago) at BMI Winchester. I think all the BMI group hospitals do bariatric surgery. My surgeon then transferred to Spire Southampton and I followed him. My care has now been taken over by the NHS. The Hospital Group is a big provider. Is the NHS out of the question? You have to be VERY big and have other medical conditions to qualify.

i am not sure of the terms and conditions on here, I probably can't post links to other boards. So I suggest you google gastricsurgeryfriends and read posts on there. We are all Brits! I spent the first five of my banded years on OH and have made great friends like Jean. But it is actually easier to get support from people who talk in stones, use UK dress sizes, know UK foods, not to mention UK hospitals.

Going abroad to Belgium or the CR is cheaper, but remember you will need lots of aftercare. Some of the Belgium clinics do set that up in the UK. Not all do!

Kate

Thanks Kate. That's alot of help I defiantly qualify for surgery not with the nhs due to not having a physical health condition won't mention weight but my bmi is not far off 45. I will have a look on the mentioned sites and I have been looking at the hospital group they include aftercare from what I can see. Would you advise me to just saved before I start booking consultations?

Also how long did it take after consultation till u was banded? Have you experienced any pain after affects if so how bad? Does you have to inject your self for ten days after to avoid clotting? And also what sort of price am I looking at. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks xx

I don't mind at all... Have had my band a week so I have limited info but I can't try and answer your questions.....

Did you have a lot to loose I am hoping to loose 7-8 stone but ideally 9.

I started at 17stone would like to get to 10stone but may try and lose more once I get there!

Also how long did it take after consultation till u was banded? It is a two week pre-op diet but I started that before I met the surgeon. Talk to Sally Price she is the consultant and has had the surgery. Ask wht dates are available.

Have you experienced any pain after affects if so how bad? The first few days I had a little pain but not too bad. Now I feel fine but one of my incisions has an infection so I am on antibiotics. Otherwise I would be fine :(

Does you have to inject your self for ten days after to avoid clotting? No.....

And also what sort of price am I looking at 4995gbp

xx

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
