Thanksgiving Dinner

Recommended Posts

I am 21 days post-op and able to eat soft, moist foods.

I have a whole house full coming for dinner.

I am cooking all the regular fixins.

I will eat the turkey with a little gravy, sweet potato, roasted squash, cranberry, and a taste of pie.

I will not eat mashed potatoes, rolls, stuffing, pie crust, peas, corn.... appertizers ect.

Its the company ( family and friends) that counts!

I am making sweet potatoes and a broccoli casserole to take to our dinner. I'm still on full liquids, but I'm going to take a small portion of the potatoes and put extra milk in and artificial sweetener and put in a little ramekin for myself. I'm going to try to do the same thing with the broccoli (sans the rice) and put it in my blender and see if I can get it close to liquified. Just tiny, tiny, runny portions for me today.

And I'm going to remember my mantra: Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!!!

some of everything.... and that's a lot . We have quite a spread, but I will have a bite or two of each thing, maybe a little more stuffing. Dessert is where the problem will come in with pies and that Homemade Ice Cream!!! Uff. Enjoy it all in moderation. Happy Thanksgiving!

cooking small potions only have a turkey breast. I have a young male coming over so I am hoping he will eat everything that is left. For me a bit of everything including pie I bought a small two serving apple pie and will have a small piece then freeze the rest for Christmas. That is the plan I will let you know how I did. If it works we will do it again Christmas if no then Chrismas is canceled.

3 weeks out and I'm planning on having a little of everything. It's of course my favorite holiday and I don't want to deprive myself or I'll indulge later. Of course I'll skip the rolls and the stuffing but definitely eat the turkey mixed with gravy first and then a little sampling of all of the other yummy stuff! I'll probably skip dessert and just go for the cranberry sauce. I'm not loving sweets lately, and this is coming from a pastry chef! ;) Happy Thanksgiving!

first, Happy Thanksgiving to all. Not to be corny, but I am soooo thankful for my surgery and this chance to live the life I've imagined, and also so thankful for everyone who shares and cares on LBT. What an awesome support system..

14 days out - Protein Shakes and maybe turnips, applesauce for me. Like all, company matters most! Enjoy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
