Needing A Bit Of Encouragement

Recommended Posts

I am two weeks post-op and have lost 23lbs to date, but when I got on the scale today (first time in a few days) my number did not move. On the one hand I know I am being totally illogical and have had great success, but on the other, I feel a bit deflated that I am not losing more. I either need some encouragement or a virtual b$#%h slapping for being crazy/impatient. I am open to either - thanks for any thoughts you all have! ^_^

Oh honey... get used to it, cuz it will drive you nuts.

You would think with the calorie deficit and exercise the weight would absolutely fall off but it doesn't. I get really frustrated at times but I know I have to keep going and eventually it's gotta give.

Lots of things can affect it. you monthly cycle, a salty meal will make you retain Water, If you haven't had a bowel movement in a while (sometimes I go quite a few days  . Don't get discouraged.... just keep up the good work!

Best of luck to you

In my opinion also make sure you don't weigh yourself too often. I do once a week and dont own a scale because I would be getting on every day and it would drive me crazy.

I just had my 2 weeks post op appt and my nurse said that is completely normal to not lose weight until you have been on solids for a few weeks. I've only lost 7 pounds post op and she thought that was great. I think we (me included) all just need to be patient, it took us many years to put it on, and it will probably take many years to take it off. It's a journey that we will be on for the rest of our lives, and enjoy the ride. Better to be going down, then up!

I agree with everbody's comments. Be patient and throw the scale out the window. What's wonderful is going into your closet and trying on stuff you didn't ever think you would wear again. It's an awesome feeling.

You're healing. Don't get too caught up with the numbers. You're doing great!

Don't give up. It has taken me a month to break a plateau and start lossing again. It took me 15mos to lose 94lbs. I have always had it in my mind its not about how much weight I have lost It is being able to keep it off. I have gotten out of weighing myself every day so now I only weigh 3 times a week. It is the baby steps we take that will make us all a sucess.

good luck and keep up the good work

I lost 28 pounds the first 2 months. Not a single pound the third month. I have since lost another 31 pounds in 9 months. Not a lot, but I do the math and it comes to 59 pounds in a year. This is a marathon, not a sprint. It will start again.

Good work! On average you have lost a pound a week all year long! Slow and steady wins the race sister and you are on target for what is expected with the band, 1 or 2 lbs a week! You should be proud! My goal is slow and steady loss :)

Been there, done that, as most of us have. Remember that the first 4 to 6 weeks are for healing, not necessarily weight loss. Your body needs to heal first.

We can all relate with that frustrated feeling. The weight didn't all come on in 2 weeks, and so it'll take some time to come off too.

One day at a time! ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
