Jillie,

First of all the biggest congrats on this new life you are about to start. My advice would be to listen to your doctor about what to eat at first and things like that. Dont try to do too much after your surgery and TAKE A DEEP BREATH! I have no regrets about my band. There are alot of really cool people on here. They have great ideas and advice for just about anything you could come up with to ask. YOu will be in my thoughts and prayers. Best of luck!

Hi Cookinjillie!

Welcome to LBT. My best advise is to spend hours here on LBT. The people here have seen it ALL. Spend as little time as you can manage in the Complication's Forum. It's a good idea to know what to expect if you have complications from your surgery but if you spend too much time in that forum you'll only give yourself an anxiety attack. I know cause that's exactly what I did! LOL

Seriously, this website was my best resource for questions and information and most of all SUPPORT. I talked myself into and out of surgery several times during my research phase. The people here gave me the courage to take that leap of faith and I'm so glad I did. For the first time in my life I feel like I'm in control of the food instead of the other way around.

Another great website is www.FitDay.com I never logged my food consumption before because I thought it would be too much work and too much looking for calories/fat/nutrition info for each thing that I ate every day. It was just too much trouble. FitDay does all the work for you and it's FREE! There is a downloadable version which is much better and only costs $20 but you should definitely try out the free version first to see if you like it and will use it and second because if you use the free version they give you discount on the downloadable version. The biggest problem with the free version is that the custom food feature doesn't retain the 'portions' you input which means you have to change that part every time. Kind of a pain. The downloadable keeps everything you plug in and has a lot more reports and gives you more oportunities to track your food consumption by different categories. Graphs and pie charts, trends, moods. All kinds of stuff. It's pretty great. Enough about FitDay - I'm becoming obssessed with it - but in a good way! LOL

Best advise: follow your doctor's orders to a T. If he give's you leeway, always go the conservative route. DO at least a week of liquid diet before surgery no matter what anyone says (your surgery will go easier and your recovery time will be better). Give yourself time to heal before you start obssessing on your weight loss - advise I can't seem to take myself!.

If I think of anything else I'll post again.

Good luck on your weight loss journey and congrats on your surgery date.

Cookinjillie - congrats on your upcoming band date!

I, like you, also need to lose that 100 or so lbs. I am looking at June 13, 2006 for my banding.

This site is full of great information-and awesome people and has been a great tool in my research.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Tracy

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
