Update: One Week Post-Op

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

God is The Greatest! I can not praise Him enough. I thank Him for giving me a chance to improve my life. An a life improvement it has been...

I was banded a week ago today (3/29). To be honest I planned on coimng in here posting a few observations I have made on a NSV caliber. However, I did a no - no and got on the scale a few minutes ago (I was weighed in yesterday at my docs office too). I did not do a pre-op diet.

NSV

1. There is no slippage or oozing out of fat from my bra....last week it was disgusting, now everything fits in.

2. I can clean my backside with ease. Last week I was in tears because I have short arms and it was getting very difficult and it depressed me because I new a gfew more gained pounds and I would need a home nurse to bath me!

3. My backpains have disappeared. I truely do not understand that as I did not expect this until I lost at least 75lbs!

4. My endema on my hands and feet are gone. There are no indents left from my socks or shoes.

5. My anxiety and stress is decreasing

6. I can wash and moisturize my feet better.

7. I enjoy taking my children to the corniche and playground again.

SV

I have lost 17lbs!

I'm sure this is Water weight and that the lost will slow down and I might even have a gain, but I feel so much better in just one week. Who would have thought that just a fraction of this weight coming off would alleviate so many of my problems.

I have not had any complications. I have no real complaints, but I am nursing my son and am concerned I may not be getting in enough calories. At night my brest are full when I put him to sleep and he nurses thriughout the night but in the day time they do not feel as full. He is eating food and I still nurse him several times during the day (today I was tired and felt a bit drained). Nursing him and co-sleeping with him have also been my most physically uncomfortable moments. Not a big problem and well worth the scrafice.

Well that's all folks:)

Congratulations on a GREAT first week. I was banded a day after you but won't have my first weigh-in until 4/14 at the post-op visit. I wish you continued success and thank you for sharing your experience.

Awsome post. A friend of mine was unable to eat while breastfeeding. Her doctor told her not to worry, that the baby would get what she needed. It would just be taken out of her body.

So sip lots of Water take care of yourself, and congratulations. I hope to be posting a similar post in July.

Thank You Elizabeth. I noticed that Stateside the follow-up is usually two weeks, my doc saw me at one week. He actually was shocked to see me yesterday and said the appointment should have been for thursday (a week after my release). I wonder if this is because Stateside it seems everyone has staples, but here they use sutures.

Miper the support here was priceless so I am glad to be able to pay it forward.

Paulax, that is exactly what is happening, he is taking his food from me and it can be exhausting on the body. Oh well...i'm use to it. I have nursed two other children well into two other pregnancies...God-Willing these deeds will please God and He will put me in paradise for it! At least that's what I keep telling myself ;)

Kabeerah, congratulations on a great first week! You're a brave woman to do this while nursing, indeed. I remember how exhausting nursing was, and can only imagine what you're going through with healing on top of it.

17 lbs is a LOT! And sure, it's Water weight, and that's the reason your swelling is gone. You're doing great!! Now try to get some sleep. ;)

It's interesting to hear how the procedure is done in different places. I had mine done a week ago today but did not have staples. They used self-dissolving sutures and a clear shiny covering over that. I had no steri-strips or dressings and could shower the day after surgery.

Dylansmom and Kathy thank you so much for your support.

Elizabath, I would love to hear from more bandsters outside of north America.

When I was frist badned a few weeks ago I lost 17 pounds off the bat and I'm sure most of it was Fluid. But who needs all the extra fluid?? My pain in my joints was also a lot less and I felt better. So who cares if it is fluid? It was obviously causing a problem. good for you! You are doing great.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
