I'm Still Hurting! :'(

I had hernia and lap band surgery on November 8th. I have been hurting off and on, on my left lower side of my stomach. Does anyone have any ideas why? Is this normal? Is there anything I can do? Sometimes the pain is very sharp, but it doesn't really hurt if I am still, but does hurt if I burp or stretch my lower abdomen. I have my first visit with my surgeon since my surgery tomorrow, but I would like to get some sleep tonight, I have been using a heating pad but it doesn't work. Please offer any suggestions if you can. Thanks
