Should I Be Worried?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery Friday and was allowed to shower yesterday (Sunday). When I got out the clear protective adhesives were coming all off, so now all that is left are the steri-strips covering the incisions; which makes me hesitant to take another shower. Should I be worried?

No the steri strips will stay on fairly well until they fall off themselves

Even after showering? One is nearly off and I'm only 3 days post.

You are fine. Steri strips will come off on their own. I was even allowed to use the tub!

At my 1 week post op appt. the nurse told me to tear them all off as they were grungy and they didn't want the chance of infection. Don't worry about them if they fall off, you should be pretty well glued or stitched together.

I didn't have steri strips or clear bandages or anything other than the glue! You'll do just fine.

Ok, UPDATE!!!!

I woke up to go to the potty (potty??? guess you can tell I still have babies at home with me) and one of my steri strips has fallen off. I know that yyou guys said not to worry, but I'm kinda paranoid that there is nothing covering the incision! I don't want irritation and then infection to settle in from having a bare incision site. On Friday, I had the iBand (Band with imbrication/plication) and hernia repair, so I have a total of five scars; four of which are on the left side. The one that fell off is the lowest one on the left side.

Also, I have broken out into some sort of rash on my sides. The bumps are small and resemble "goose bumps" and the itch. I know that the possibility of everything going perfectly is a dream, but when I do notice things and changes, I feel this forum is a lifesaver so that I can good great advice! Please put my mind at ease!

Thanks in Advance,

Banditiff

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
