do you only get PB with when you have a fill.. does it happen post opp before a fill???

Alot of people are saying that they can go back to eating like they used to about 4 weeks after surgery becasue they don't have a fill.... is this true?

I had a PB post-op before a fill.

Whether or not it happens to someone will depend on their anatomy. The band itself, without fill, does provide some restriction - how much depends on the size of your organs and the inside diameter of the band.

In addition to that, post-op swelling can cause more restriction because it's that much more mass to fit in an ungrowing space.

Yes you can have a pb before a fill. Everyone experiences the band a little diffrently. I don't know if it was 4 weeks after surger but you can eat more and more until your next fill.

Productive Burp is what it is called. Actually to me it felt like the 3 bites of cottage cheese I had was going down hard down my throat then developed into what felt like a hiccup slowly coming back up. I think I hiccuped three times before the actual slim started flowing out of my mouth. I then, did it two more times and it stopped. I trashed the rest of the cottage cheese and haven't tried it again since then. I have no idea where the slime comes from.

The slime is your body's way of trying to "lubricate" a blockage.

As for what's a PB, search - you'll find HUNDREDS of explanations and details. Or see this thread.

Actually, I lost more before the fill since I was doing the post op regimen, once I got my first fill I found a way to cheat the band and started drinking a bunch of no-nos, so I guess my point is to get ready to change your eating habits even if you don't have a fill.

I didn't actually PB but I got The Golfball when I took a post-op antibiotic capsule and hadn't let it soak in Water long enough to soften up. It hurt like heck and I don't want to have to experience that again. Sadly, I'm sure it will happen. I've had a couple of close calls here on the mushies stage but if I slow down, take smaller bites and PAY ATTENTION it's much, much better.

maryb - I'm eating cottage cheese right now! No problems so far. If you like cottage cheese, wait awhile and give it another try. I didn't realize how good the Protein to carbohydrate ratio is on cottage cheese. I think I like it better just for knowing that! lol

DonnaB, Are you eating Fat free Cottage cheese? I tried the one that comes with fruit on the side. I think it was way too thick. I thought maybe fat free with milk to thin would be ok to try.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
