I hate to tell you this, but you're never supposed to have carbonation after being banded. Carbonation can lead to slips and most surgeons forbid sodas, or any carbonation, ever again after getting the band.

I know some people do have soda, however when I was in the hospital getting banded the woman sharing my room was in there for a band replacement. She had been drinking soda and not only did her band slip, but her stomach actually prolapsed up through her band. She also regained 40 pounds.

I will never, ever touch carbonation again. It's not worth the risk.

You will have to check with your own surgeon to be certain.

My dr has 3 rules you must agree to before banding... One of them is you may never have carbonation again. The reasoning behind it is that when you drink carbonation your stomach expands and contracts with every sip. The band is stitched to the upper stoma... If the stomach expands often enough it can loosen the stitches and cause slipping of the band.

It always surprises me how doctors differ.

Chilled Water with a couple of chopped strawberries or a slice of lemon is delicious. But really, I have just become so used to drinking plain water that it tastes good to me. And I used to drink about 1 itre of Pepsi Max EVERY day pre-banding! Now it smells bad, tastes bad (I have tried a sip), and it's just a big no no with the band. My tastes have changed for the better.

I have spent the last 2 holiday seasons drinking Water in a pretty glass with lots of lemons... It's doable. ;).

And this year I am at goal and will still drink the Water but may induldge in a glass or 2 of wine. Of course my stomach isn't used to it anymore so add lots of ice to water it down.... I know ... wine purists will strike me dead....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
