Exercising During Pre-Op?

Recommended Posts

Is anyone else exercising during pre-op? Got tips? My doc wants me to walk 30 minutes per day but I'm so low energy from the diet I swear I'm literally sleep walking!

I did exercise pre op, 3 or 4 times a week.

I did too, but I could not walk due to the pain. I exercised in a pool and bought a $20 set of pedals, sat my ass on the sofa in front of the TV and pedaled away. Still do when I can't get to the pool or gym. Every little bit helps! I started at 15 min and now I do 1 to 1 1/2 hours each day. Just find something, it doesn't matter what it is.

Lap swimming. I use a snorkle because I'm not a great technical swimmer. Water proof MP3 is a must! Also water aerobics is a great group exercise. If you miss classes people notice. Great motivator to show up. I've made great friends. Also the instructor can make suggestions to make moves harder or easier. Lost 50 lbs preop ( over 7 months).

Thanks for the responses guys. I was referring more to the time during the pre-op diet, 2 weeks prior to surgery. I am pretty low energy the last few days and can't seem to work out the same way I was before.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
