Recommended Posts

I've really struggled on pre op diet . Whilst I have avoided fatty foods I haven't lost weight. My op is two days away and I'm nervous

Are you going to struggle on the post op diet too? Because if so.. You may want to put off being banded until you are committed. I only say this because it's a major commitment and there is no going back

Best wishes as you move forward

This has been a deep and meaningful journey I've been on. I have lost half stone but in last two weeks prob only 1lb. I know there is no going back and I haven't taken this decision lightly especially as I've saved up £6,800 to pay for it. This has got to be my life change not a band change x x

weight loss is not the goal at this time or for the next 4-6wk The pre-op has to do with reducing the size of the liver for the doctor convience and the next 4-6 is for healing and learning how to eat . Its not to say you don't loss durning this time but its not the goal. Just follow the rules your doctor set and when you really start the program it will come off. I dint do the pre-op and loss 7 lbs three day after surgery and have loss 2.5 a week since for a total of 33 lbs since Aug 20th. People are so quick to blame the person for not following the rules when they don't don't loss weight...many times it is but not always...every meal is a restart just keep at it......and get your fill they are the key

Just remember the pre op and the post op diet of mostly liquids isn't a forever thing. You will be able to eat again. So don't dwell on the short term...take in the whole picture.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
