Slipped Band And Dilated Esophagus

Recommended Posts

I was just had a gastrosopcy. The diagnosis was slipped band and dilated esophagus. My Bariatric Doctor left a note for my saying to follow up with him in his office for a complete unfill. Has anyone else had this diagnosis?

Yes, I had to be completely unfilled due to a slippage last year, I remained unfilled for two months and gained about five lbs. The slippage repaired itself; however. Since then I'm constantly experiencing tightness after fills and having to be unfilled two weeks out of getting my feel. I'm actually in that way right now and will be calling my surgeons office in the morning. Keep in touch with your surgeon.

How did you know something was wrong? Couldn't keep anything down? Pain?

Both, I wasn't able to even keep down Water and the pain was horrible. Immediately after being unfilled I was fine an my band repositioned itself and after two months of being opened I got my 1st fill. I'm@ 5.5ccs now but I'm calling my surgeon in the morning because I'm tight again and unable to keep anything down not even liquids. I thought it was reflux and tried acid reducers but they've been coming back up as well. Reconsidering this band and preparing for another option. Too painful and embarrassing always having to leave the table or the room to go puke.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
