Ruptured Disk, Have To Take Ncids

Recommended Posts

I ruptured a disk in my lower back and have to take Motrin for the inflammation. I did call my doctor and they said it should be fine but just do some antacids to help counteract what they might be doing to my stomach. This is the first time I've taken anything but Tylenol since surgery, so im hoping that it won't do anything. Im hoping I will only have to take them for a week.

Also, if I have to have surgery on my back, do you think I will have to have my band unfilled? It would be an in/ out procedure if needed.

Just make sure you contact your surgeon if you show ANY sign of band inflammation, I had to take aspirin last fall and I started feeling tight. By the time I thought to call him, I ended up having to be completely emptied out. Everything turned out fine, but he told me I should have called as soon as I noticed a change in how my band felt.

As for the surgery, I have had two outpatient procedures done since i was banded and neither required any adjustment to the band.

Hope that helps,

I have an autoimmune spectrum disease which causes chronic inflammation in my joints; if I can't my meloxicam I can't move too well. I had to decrease my pre-band surgery dose of the NSAID by 50% which just gets me by, though barely. I have to take Prevacid daily to protect my stomach. On a few occasions, my surgeon has allowed me to take an Advil liquigel which did not have any negative effects.

When I had my gall bladder surgery in August, my band did not need to be unfilled. I have heard of people needing their bands unfilled for surgery, however my surgeon said that for me it was not necessary.

Good luck, feel better!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
