Any Low Bmi Bandsters With Successful Weight Loss?

Recommended Posts

Hi, this is my 2nd post! I have so many questions!

Ok, i was wondering if there are any low BMI bandsters (my bmi is 33) who had a successful weight loss in the first month.

After 30 years of struggle, i am definitely not in a hurry and will give this the time it needs, but i know how i work and would like to hit the ground running if possible to set the tone for my journey. Even an initial good loss of say 10-20lbs the first month followed by a long-ish stall is ok.... i just wanna make sure i do everything i can to not have a situation where i don't see ANY results post op and have some kind of post op depression.

Like i said, i know it will take time, and i have done tons of research reading your very helpful posts :)

For those of you lucky enough to have a good loss in the first month, Is it just a matter of following doctors/nutritionists orders to a T?

Thank u guys!

Ugh, i am so keen to get this done! I would do it tomorrow if i could!

I was a 33 when I went for surgery. That was 11 days ago and I have lost 6 pounds since then.

Congrats! And thank you! I assume you are still on liquids stage? What kinds of things are you having?

I am on pureed -- so anything I want, as long as I run it through the blender. In reality, bean Soups, Beans, peas, whirred veggies, Jello. And I have hard-food dreams. (That sounded SO kinky.)

Haha! Thanks for your feedback. Are you seeing a steady weight loss or is it unpredictable like a lot of people say?

Its been such a short time, and as of this morning I am down another pound. Honestly, I think it would be very hard in the first few weeks post op NOT to lose steadily.

It's great that you are doing your research and that you understand that no two journeys are the same. Please also be aware that a lot of people do NOT actually lose any weight in the immediate post op period as they are still healing. This is normal so be mentally prepared for this, as well.

Best of luck.

Hello!

Thanks for the reply. If I do end up not losing any weight immediately post op, I will try to be prepared, I guess I want to make sure it's not cos of something I am doing wrong.

I hope I have the same success as you! I have read so many horror stories, I guess I wanted to hear from some people who has a different perspective/result so I can be positive :)

So thank you

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
