How Soon After Post Op Can I "focus" On Weight Loss?

Recommended Posts

I am ten days out and now feel like myself again. I know I am supposed to be focusing on healing, but I am weighing daily anyway. The first five days after surgery I dropped ten pounds. The last five days I have stayed the same. When can I start to focus like a laser on losing weight by excersizing and eating as little as possible? My first excersizing will be treadmill walking and floor leg excersizes that I do for my knees. I have already started the leg excersizes.

I guess my question is, when does the focus switch from healing to losing? I know that I am being impatient, it is a trait that I will never be rid of, however those skinny jeans I have hung on my wall are screaming at me to get started!

Don't weigh yourself everday, eat ur mushies then whatever your diet post op papersor doctor says to do , then you won't notice but when you have your follow up with the doctor you will be suprised & proud of yourself.

I am 6 days post op and starting to feel human again... Just because we feel ok and look ok on the outside, remember we still have stitches and healing to do on the inside :) Follow doctors orders on diet (eating too little can hinder weight loss!) and my docs orders say 4-6 weeks before excersize other than walking. Check with your doc for his specifics. Good luck!!!

Well for starters, "eating as little as possible" isn't the object nor is it wise. Eating healthy, balanced meals within the parameters set for you by your nutritionist is what you should be doing. If you're not getting enough calories, not only will it eventually drastically stall your weight loss but you'll burn muscle rather than fat.

Talk to your doctor to make sure he says it's ok, but you should be able to start walking right now. As for other exercise, most are told to weight 4-6 weeks after surgery to allow your body time to heal.

Mis You are absolutely right. I worded that poorly. I meant when should I stop using the excuse of, I'm healing, to avoid the next sugar free treat. I figure part of this is fighting hunger a little, right? Part of the problem is that I can't really eat much right now that I'm still on liquids I guess. I just feel kinda guilty chomping down on popcycles and Jello all day.

I think I am going to start on my treadmill today, slowly. I'm gonna aim for just a mile at first. Thanks for the replies guys, it's always nice to feel like I'm part of the group!

I focused on weight loss from the first day of my pre op diet.... But the first 2 weeks on liquid post op you don't have to worry about it much as long as you aren't drinking milkshakes and liquor.... Once I started on mushies it was game on.
