6 days post-op and exhausted

Recommended Posts

I am 6 days post-op and I am so tired I can barely walk. I called dr and they advanced me to full liquids but it hasn't helped. I am trying to drink lots of liquids but I am sooooo tired. I tried to work this morning and I had to reschedule my clients. Any ideas would be appreciated. I almost passed out in the shower.

Thanks to all who reply.:notagree

Hang in there. I was very, very tired for at least the first 4 weeks. The anesthesia takes a good while to wear off. And our body needs to rest. I didn't feel stronger until I got enough Protein in my body. I made some egg drop Soup (after checking with my doc about eggs because they are hard to digest) and felt tons better. Once I got protein...my brain fog cleared and energy returned. My coworkers saw a 100% difference!!! Hope this helps, Susa n

mwillis,

Are you getting in your Protein Shakes? and Vitamins? Those are the things I can think of. Also, walking about 10-15 minutes a day helped me a lot. I'm so sorry you're not feeling strong. Keep in touch with your doctor if it doesn't get better.

I'll be thinking about you,

I felt the same way, so I totally understand. Three things for me: I needed more fluids, I needed to up my calories (used egg drop Soup and I immediately felt better) and also realizing the anesthesia really knocks me for a loop and wwas still having an effect. I needed two weeks before I thought of doing anything really, even making dinner for my boyfriend.

Perhaps you can call in some sick days?

it took me 4 weeks to feel my self. The first 2 weeks for me were bad. I was in pain and felt so tired. At day 10 I started mushies and that helped. I now 5 weeks out and feel good. If I exercise too much or walk too much I get a bit tired. Take your time to heal and you will be fine.

Give yourself time, you are only 6 days out. I was tired as well. I took a week off from work then went back to school a week and a day after. It was exhausting but my doc had me on mushies right out of the hospital.

Good luck I hope you feel better soon.

I was just starting to get back on my feet at 6 days. I had to return to work on day 7 and just barely made it through the day. I started making sure I was getting at least 3 good Protein Shakes a day. I also started taking an Iron supplement. My doctor has me on a daily Vitamin but it doesn't have much iron, so I take a really small iron tab that I found at the drugstore. I don't take it everyday but I do take it every other day. It makes a huge difference for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
