Weight Loss On Pre-Op Diet

Recommended Posts

I work on a surgical floor and we dont make people take wedding rings off. Only piercings and other jewelry. Its more common then you think for them to be covered up with bandaids.

I learned something new today :) Wasn't aware it was that common. My mom works in an OR as well and thought it was odd. Thanks for the info Cheryl!

I'm hoping to lose a lot on pre op diet because my wedding rings are stuck on me, and I don't want them cut off for surgery. I plan to go to a jeweler 2 days b4 surgery if they still won't budge. I have a month to pre op diet, so I'm trying to be healthy most of the time now, then my liquid diet. I also am interested in hearing how much people who did a pre op diet lost. I'm guessing if I lose 20 pounds in the next 6 weeks (very hard maybe not possible but who knows I don't have experience with a liquid diet...which is why it is nice to her from those who do) maybe my rings will come off...I'm hoping!!!!

Good luck with the rings! Hope everything turns out great for you and congratulations on your upcoming surgery!!

Just curious: what's the reason for covering up wedding rings with bandaids?

Hi everyone!! Im having my 2nd band put in on the 30 nov. Im in Melbourne, Australia. Ive on Optifast for 2weeks apparently the main reason they do it is to try & have some weight loss before surgery and to shrink your liver. Anyways i hope everyone is going well!!

Because surgeons use electrical cauterizing equipment that jewelry interferes with. Most places if you absolutely can not get your rings off and refuse to have them cut off will put a bandaid over it to counter act the metal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
