Anyone Losing More Than 50% Weight

Recommended Posts

So I went to the seminar by the doc who does the procedure... This is required by my dr and insurance. Next is psych. The ball is moving slowly but.... In the seminar he said the lap band usually only allows for about 50% of wanted weight loss?! Any thoughts?

well, im down 63 of the 85 lbs i need to lose , in just 11 months. I started Dec 2011 at 225 and im at about 163 now with a goal of 140. I did slow down a bit at the 50 lbs mark, but im still losing, so no i dont think you always stop at 50 lbs.

I have lost 100% of my weight, took me 2 years. I have a normal BMI and at my ideal body weight. The lap band alone will not help you get this success, you have to work the program, develop a healthy life style and EXERCISE. My weight loss was slow and steady. No WLS promotes that you will lose all your weight, WHY because even with WLS the weight lose is contingient upon what you put in your body. Good luck!

I was told the same, so far I've lost 30% of my excess weight but ill be damned if I'm going to get to 50% then stop loosing, I'm going to work butt of to get to 100% weight loss and prove his statistics wrong.

I lost 75 out of 100. What the MD means is that the average person getting the band loses about 50%. Actually the studies range from 43% to 55%. That does not mean that people can't lose more or all of it. It just means that the average is about that. It's a higher average for the sleeve and even higher for bypass. The bottom line is that since we have the more conserative method (the band) we have to be more proactive in getting it all off. The band gives us a great big push down the hill and we can coast the first 50% but after that - we really gotta start peddling like crazy to make it all the way down the hill.

I have lost 90 percent of my excess. My bmi is 26 and im about 6 lbs from my goal, but im at a size 8/10, so im ok with wear im at now. Not that big of a deal if I reach my 100 percent.

You can do it. its definitely doable!!!

No weight loss surgery or diet is going to work if the person doing it doesnt take some responsibility. I have lost 112 pounds 15 pounds from goal. It works if you work it. Simple as that. You cant eat what you want and expect to be a size 8 its not gonna work.

Yes, I was told that little figure as well. But as it was explained to me, out of a 100 people with lapband 50 lost to goal and 50 did not making the average weight loss 50%(think I was actually told 48%)......did not really make since to me either but I’m sure if they would have only used compliant patients and those without complications the figures would have been much higher

I have lost 100% of my excess fat. I am at goal and have been for about a year. I believe its all about how much you put into it.

Tracy, what is it like for someone that has made it 100%. Do they take out the Fluid and will u gain easy?

I almost find it harder to maintain than the actual losing. It is hard to get out of the losing mind frame. I keep thinking I need to see the scale going down. Its a constant battle to be ok with my weight and its ok to let myself enjoy food. I have not had any Fluid taken out, but I do continue to exercise and weight lift on a regular basis. If I want a bowl of ice cream, I'm going to have it. I eat like a regular person, I enjoy any type of food I want but in moderation. I go out and have drinks with friends. I'm not a calorie counter, but I use to be constantly worried about how many calories I was eating. Now I'm trying not to fret when I do eat too much of the high calorie items.

I still consume a lot of Protein and try to eat as clean as I can (nothing processed). I have actually put on 5 pounds from my lowest, but have maintained this weight for a while and I'm happy with it. I started out at 330lbs and I now weigh 165lbs, which is a 165 pound loss.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
