mommyvega3 22 Posted November 14, 2012 Trying to drink my Protein Shakes and get my fluids in...but its hard...I feel like I'm just sitting with a cup in my hand all day and its making me tired!!! Any advice on how to spice up this liquid diet to wake me up!!!? Got 12 more days before soft foods ( which I can't wait for cause I'm starving for something other than liquid!!) And I'm not going to deviate but just need some liquid suggestions!!!
Fallbride 35 Posted November 14, 2012 If you are only two days post op, you will need to practically have the cup in your hand all day. This is because the swelling from your surgery is preventing the liquid from going down. This happend to me for about four days and it began to ease as the swelling went down and I was able to drink more at a time. Just keep trying and it will happen! 1 A New New Dawn reacted to this

wildrose1966 396 Posted November 14, 2012 My dr's instructions for liquid diet were Soup, yogurt, puddings, smoothies (no fruits with seeds), Protein Drinks. I could not handle Protein Powder or any of the pre made drinks, went back to Optifast. Everything falls of a spoon and no chunks. Try greek yogurt, add cottage cheese to your Soup and blend it, adds Protein. good luck
cheryl2586 3,053 Posted November 14, 2012 at two days post op I would not be eating anything that can fall off a spoon. If your doctor said stay on liquids yogurt or other consistancys do not fall in that catagory. Stay on what your doctor said. 2 Fallbride and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
wildrose1966 396 Posted November 14, 2012 2 days post op I was on full liquids.........yogurt and pudding are considered full liquid at my clinic. Clear Liquids were the first 24hrs. Depends on what specifically your surgeon has told you for the next 12 days, clear liquids or full liquids.

A New New Dawn 1,695 Posted November 14, 2012 It is hard to get enough liquids down the first several days until the swelling starts to go down. I did Soup broths, cream soup bases, tea, Water with the mio flavor enhancer, Protein drinks, and even plain milk since it has Protein (when I could stomach protein drinks). As you begin healing more it will get easier to get fluids down. Hang tight, relief is on the way.
