3Rd Fill On 10Ml Band

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Bandsters,

I was banded 9/7/12 & have 4mL in a 10mL band & am going in for my 3rd fill next Wed. I currently feel a small amount of restriction. I do not want to get too much. I was wondering how much others got on thier 3rd fill & what if any issues they had. Thanks!

I have a 10 cc. band and at the time of surgery, the surgeon put in .5 cc to lubricate it. I had surgery on 9/24 and first fill on 10/12, at which time he put in 5 cc, so all total I have 5 1/2 cc. I have restriction, but I tend to get hungry in between meals. He told me to eat 5-6 small meals a day and to sip on liquids in between. I haven't quite gotten the hang of that, but am trying. I've lost just shy of 30 pounds, so I'm not complaining, although the weight loss has slowed down considerably.

How the band fits around the size of the opening into your stomach varies from person to person. Sometimes the fills are trial and error. The doctors have to go by what you tell them. Also they are usually careful to add Fluid in small increments, to prevent over filling. In other words, how my band fits me and how your band fits you may be totally different. Even if we have the same size band. I have chatted with some that get two fills and they are at a perfect spot. Some may take several more to reach that sweet spot. When you reach that sweet spot...you have to obey the rules of the band. Otherwise the it won't feel like your sweet spot. Take care and good luck to you. Welcome to Bandland !

Hello! I was banded 10/7/11 with 0 added to my 10cc band at time of surgery. My fill schedule went as follows...

10/31 +3.5cc

12/12 +1cc

02/08 +1cc

04/09 +1cc

07/03 +.5cc

I am now at 7cc and in the perfect place. =) It just took a little time to get where I needed to be. I know people who are at 4cc in the same band and they are also good. It depends on you. Just be honest with the doc about how you feel and they should be able to get you to the right place. It took me 8 months! Good luck!

I am going for my 3rd fill next week (11/21). I have 5.5cc right now but do not feel the best restriction.

Don't worry about how many fills you get. You are doing what is the purpose of the band, limiting you food intake by adequate restriction. I am going to make mine work as long as my physician is in agreement.

I can only tolerate 5 cc in my 10 cc band. I tried 5.5 and it was too much. Good luck, don't get too tight. It is worse than too loose, believe me. Karen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
