2 Days Post Op And May Have Over Did It

Recommended Posts

So I had some bleeding from my belly button incision yesterday... I think I over did it by walking around the grocery store with my husband yesterday. I was already pretty sore and should have known better, its just hard to accept that I need to take it easy, I have a ten month old and lots of stuff that needs to get done... I think I learned my lesson though :( time to relax today. My biggest struggle is trying to eat, anything! I'm just not really hungry so I'm trying to eat bites of applesauce throughout the day. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Also, can someone suggest a good Protein supplement to start incorporatating in my diet? In addition, what Vitamins are you taking? I just want to do everything perfect to lose the max amount that I can! Thanks in advance!

Yes please take it easy. This is a time to heal. Obviously you need to meet your childs needs but the housework and everyhting else will be there next week when you feel better.

My Dr isnt an advocate of protien shakes the first week. The second week I used Optifast that he provided. Then no more protien shakes....

On a side note....I know all Drs are different but you are on mushies after 2 days? Most people are on liquids for 1-2 weeks. My Dr is very cautious I think as I was on Clear Liquids for a week, then a week of creamy liquids, then a week of chunky liquids and finally mushies at week 4.

I was on Clear Liquids for 24 hours and now puree for two weeks, nothing thicker than applesauce. After two wks, then soft solids for two wks and can start normal solids after about four wks out. My struggle is the amount though, my discharge papers say 1oz of pureed food every 20 minutes when awake... It's hard to make Soup, then eat one bite and wait 20 min to re heat it again.. I guess that's where I'm kinda stuck on what to do! Thanks for the advice :)

Sounds like a bit too much for day 2! Give your body time to heal. Eat what your doctor told you to eat. Keep stuff on the burner is need be.. Or do you have a microwave? Then you just heat small amounts.

I guess that sounds silly about the re heating thing! Of course I have a microwave or I could just keep it on the burner... I guess its something I will have to get used to, its such an adjustment to have a restriction now, I need to practice!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
