Hi

I was banded April 2011. I have had 3 fills so far and would say that I have attained my 'green spot'. I have lost 74 pounds pre op weight. I still have around 20 pounds to go, before I reach my goal. I just wondered if there is anyone out there who has check up's regularly ? I follow banded Wendy on you tube and she appears to have a good relationship with her surgeon and regular scans and blood checks. I did have check ups for first 12 months but this aftercare ran out in April and now on my own.

well, great job so far tiger

my surgeon said for the first year after surgery, i need to go once a month and then after a year, i can come as needed or continue on with the monthly or bi-month visits.......i think it is important to maintain a relationship with the dr to ensure proper care for yourself..

Thanks for reply,

Looks like my aftercare plan isn't as good as some. I haven't seen my surgeon since February and last fill was April . No contact and I've had no problems until now. Am suffering badly with p'bing and stuck for about 3 days plus wake up feeling stuck and can't get rid of it! :( Any suggestions?

I had surgery in July 2010 and still see my surgeon every six weeks. Even if i don't get a fill, i still have that accountability and can discuss any issues with him.

The weight loss center that I went through for all of my pre-surgery visits is also part of my regular follow up and I see the dietitian, exercise physiologist and internist about every two to three months. I was very lucky to get a package deal with them where I only pay for an office visit with the doctor and I don't pay anything to see the other two.

I had an office visit yesterday and was given an article that showed that long term aftercare is one of the major factors in long term success and I have to agree!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
