Liquid Protein Opinions Needed!

Recommended Posts

I'm starting my pre-op diet this Wednesday and went and bought Light Muscle Milk and tried it this morning to see what it would taste like and it was HORRIBLE! If anyone has other suggestions, please let me know. I've got to find something that tastes relatively decent if I'm going to make it through this.

Good luck. I am four days post-op, bought No-Whey liquid protein-revolting!!! Dr. Said skim milk is fine, and usual broth, sf Jello, sf ice pops. Not hungry, but worried about Protein.< /p>

Best wishes.

I got the Optifast from the Dr's office. Its the only one he advocates so its the one I used. It was pretty decent actually. Better if you put it in the blender with ice and made it more like a milk shake.< /p>

costco Premier Protein shakes (chocolate). I put mine in freezer for 30-45 minutes and it tastes like a smoothie. Very tasty, no after taste. Eighteen 11oz shakes in a box ready to drink for $24.99 here in California. I'm still drinking at least 2 daily.

I dont like muscle milk either. I like EAS carb control chocolate. It's probably the best I have tasted.

Muscle milk was indeed AWFUL! Try the EAS if you want premixed, or I hear the Walmart shakes are good. Also, if you want to try powder the EAS powder works well. I use almond milk, unsweetened, it is lower calorie and higher Protein.< /p>

I used Barriatric Advantage Protein Shakes. All were extremely good. I also bought Protein Soups I found on Amazon....think they were by ProtiDiet. I like the chicken noodle and split pea, especially mixed together with a boulion cube. In the 2 week pre-op period, I had some hard boiled eggs and also had some canned chicken, along with the shakes, Soup, Jello, and broth. I ended up losing 20 pds on the pre-op diet !

Good Luck.

I live nectar brand, lots of flavors including fruit. The Cookies and cream is great. You can order a sample pack of 10 flavors from their website.

YES! YES! YES!

Syntrax Nectars are great. . . I ordered the sample pack before surgery (surgery is this Friday), and I just placed an order for the Double Stuffed Cookie last night so that I wouldn't suffer without it after surgery! Lol

The Double Stuffed Cookie by Syntrax Nectars is AWESOME. . .it taste like a Cookies and cream shake. . .NO KIDDING. . .and you can't taste the Protein whatsoever! Don't know if out matters to you, but it is also made with isolate Protein. . .THE BEST!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
