Band Over Bypass And Not Losing Yet:(

Recommended Posts

I had the band over bypass on Oct 8, 2012 and just received my first fill of 5.5cc and i still feel NO restriction. I'm really bummed about this. I know they say bypass patients take longer and more fills but i was really hoping to be down some weight by now:( very discouraging and depressing:(. Anyone else experience this and please tell me you eventually started losing.

You have to realize that fills don't make you lose weight, eating healthy small portions is what makes you lose weight. It's not easy in the beginning, but if you want to lose before you have adequate Fluid in your band you have to stick to a cup or less of food per meal and make sure you're making good food choices.

Are you tracking your calories? Have you seen a nutritionist? I would strongly suggest doing both if you haven't already. Making good food choices is crucial to success with the band.

Just remember, the band won't physically stop you from eating anything nor will it make good food choices for you. It's just a tool to help you feel satisfied on less food for longer periods of time. The work will always be yours to do.

Best wishes to you.

I got a band in Aug and I u did start losing right away because I did what the above post said. it takes time and the right fill level I am just now feeling the restricktion I have a 10 cc band with 6.5 cc in right now I see what everyone says about the help the band gives you. I could have had a fill every two weeks and didn't understand that. Call and see when you can get another...and give it time its hard in the beginning stick with the doctors plan it will work with you......line dancer

I had my band done Aug 2012. Im at 6cc after gaining some weight back. My doctor started me with 3cc which didn't work for me. Now being at 6cc I feel the restriction, iit a big difference. I have along way to go and I'm going to do what I have to do to get where I want to be. My feelings go up and down since I had my surgery some days I'm bummed out too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
