Day Four -- And I Have The Munchies?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Wednesday the 7th. I am on day four now, and I feel like I am starving all the time. I have tried Protein drinks, popsicles, juice, gallons of Water (I have no restrictions when it comes to liquids), thinned out Soup, broth, Decaf tea and full caf coffee. Milk and yogurt. The only thing I can get down without a hitch is the Water, and apparently that is a good thing. But I make a small amount of Soup (very thinned out) and sip the whole thing, and right away I am in the kitchen looking at everything that looks good. I think it might be in my head --- well, I am pretty sure some of its in my head, as I have been a vegetarian for years now and my son's ham slices look delicious!

I keep thinking "another week of liquids!???" I want apples, and toast, and fajitas, and ............

How to calm the hungries?

You are funny, the ham sounds good to me. lol.

Try reading or walking probably to early from your surgery to have sex. :)

It does get better, stay away from the fridge and stick to your doctor instructions. Good luck hugs.

I felt exactly the same way. I was so hungry that even the healthiest salads sounded so good. Call your dr and see if its ok to start moving on to full liquids. I noticed watery oatmeal with flaxseeds really filled me up. Another person suggested almond milk in the oatmeal. That tastes pretty good. I felt really satisfied with pureed chicken Soup. I add a ton of veggies, chicken, and seasoning. Boil, then puree in the blender. You might have to opt out on the chicken since your a vegeterian. Yesterday I did the same with lentils instead of chicken and that was super delish. i realize these are ideas for pureed foods but if its watered down then i think it will be ok. Take your time and really eat slow. I was starving and would eat a few spoon fulls of purees and would be satisfied. i also found that geen tea curves my appetite and coffee sometimes enhances my cravings. I read a study that coffee can enhance the urge for sweets as a result of caffeine crash.

So I made myself some cream of Tomato and pepper Soup, thinned it down with Water, and added a shake of nutritional yeast. Sat at the table, ate very slowly, and when I was done (full.....didn't get it all in) I washed out the bullet cup, put my dishes away, and left the kitchen. It is leaving the kitchen that is going to be hard I think, I have lived in my kitchen for all my adult life. I am sure half of my extra weight I have gained tasting whatever it is I am cooking at the time, the other half from eating it once its all done!! I feel a steep learning curve coming on. Thanks for the replies :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
