acoleman380 23 Posted November 11, 2012 I had surgery on Nov 8 and i just have no energy. It takes all i have just to take a shower and do normal things. I think i have cried about 4 times since surgery asking myself "what have i done" i just cant see the light at the end of the tunnel right now. It doesnt seem like i will ever get better. I dont feel like im getting enough nutrition and thats why i feel like this. I also have to go back to work tomorrow and really not sure how im going to make it. I guess i just needed to vent
hely88 883 Posted November 11, 2012 Congrats on your sugery! Try not to be so hard on yourself. You have been through a trauma and you need to recover. If you need to sleep them sleep. When you are up try to walk as much as you can and sip on high Protein Drinks. Your body needs time to heal and you just need to allow it. You will heal and then move to the next level of your journey and things will be much better it is not unsual to have some depression but this too will pass. CHEZNOEL 4,061 Posted November 11, 2012 It was called surgery for a reason. Give yourself a break. Make sure you are sipping all the time and get in your fluids. Take the work day slow and easy and give yourself permission to rest when you get home. Your body is still recovering. It WILL GET BETTER! 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

AnnaRabbit 16 Posted November 11, 2012 Yes, congratulations. One day at a time. Lots of liquids -sip constantly, and Liquid Protein - nasty as it tastes - my surgeon has me on all clear.was banded 8th also, sleep whenever you feel like sleeping. Isn't this all about taking best care of ourselves? Do you have to go back to work tomorrow - for sure? Thoughts are with you. I feel better the more I drink. Good luck! Spoyled 5 Posted November 11, 2012 I felt the exact same way...everything hurt, wasn't sure if anything flipped or slipped, cried daily cuz I thought I really made the wrong decision. I logged on here almost every hour looking up things, reading posts...waiting to feel better. Went back to work after a week, ended up in ER cuz I was dehydrated. I was a mess. Now I can tell you 3 weeks out is sooo much better!!! I returned back to work, I walk a mile a day, I'm eating mushies. Although I can still feel my port, that's my only issue right now. So, I'll tell you what everyone told me-Hang in there!! Drink, walk drink, walk and sleep. And don't force yourself to go back to work if you think it's too soon. I kind of felt like a whimp cuz I didn't get going "as quickly" as others did, kept comparing myself to others and it messed me up.
Toddy 758 Posted November 11, 2012 I spent Day 5 post-op in the ER absolutely positive something was wrong! I'd had gallbladder surgery a couple of years before and didn't feel anything like the weakness and shakiness I have from lb surgery!! Anyway, after a bunch of tests, they said I was fine and I went home. Felt better on Day 6. Day 7 was my first day back to work and I thought I was going to literally pass out more than a couple of times! Day 8 I was fine and haven't looked back since!! All that to say, what you're going through, awful as it is, is perfectly normal. You WILL get better -- sooner, rather than later. Just hang tough! 2 Spoyled and goal130 reacted to this
acoleman380 23 Posted November 11, 2012 Thank you everyone for the replies. I feel a little better. I ate some Tomato Soup and drank some tea and hae been resting. I know my daily struggle will be getting the Protein in because the shakes just arent working for me. I have to force myself i guess. I had my first BM today since surgery (tmi..i know sorry) so hopefuly that helped as well. I was one of the ones that didnt have to do the pre-op diet so this is just a drastic change. I have 10 more days until i can start mushies/soft foods.....*sigh* seems soooo far away :/
Banjo257 920 Posted November 11, 2012 You can do it. Be thinking of you tomorrow. Try and take it slow.
goal130 12 Posted November 11, 2012 I went back to work a week after and was in horrible pain. It has been 5 weeks since my surgery and I still feel tired but not exhausted like the first 2 weeks. I'm a teacher and have brain fog all the time. Water does help me alot. Now that i have a better calorie intake I have found the energy to go to the gym which has really upt my energy. Walking didn't really cut it. Try drinking green tea. It will def get better but it takes time.
Summerrain 520 Posted November 11, 2012 I went through periods of no energy and it was because as you mentioned lack of nutrients and minerals especially in the liquid phase, spoke to my nutritionist about it and was told to take Vitamins and to make sure my liquids contained lots of nutrients. I made my own vegetable Soups and put them through the blender till liquid and would have that and within a few days started to feel better again. V8 juice is highly nutritional, if you can drink it, I couldn't but the one with fruit and vegetables I was fine with. And lots if Water helps, two litres a day to help stay hydrated because being dehydrated can lead to bring tired also. Once you start on solids you should be ok. Hope your energy levels return quickly!
