Left Lower Side Hurting Bad

Recommended Posts

I just had my surgery, hernia and my lap band on the 8th of November . I've done pretty well but today I'm hurting pretty bad on my left lower side just below the ribcage. Is this normal? is this were the top of my stomach is? I know that sound stupid but I really don't know. If anybody could help please comment, thank you

Mis72,

yes it's under my left arm way above the pain. Do you think the pain is where the band is?

No, I think it's just residual pain from the surgery.

You have to remember, they cut into you. Even though small it damages the muscle and tissue beneath, causing pain.

Use your pain meds. A heating pad might help too. Unless it becomes warm to the touch, the incision near it starts oozing or smelling bad, or the pain increases to an intolerable level I'd simply give it a couple days to calm and heal.

Hang in there, it gets a lot better and easier :)

Thanks Mis73,

I've been holding off the pain pills all day. I did take 1 hour ago and the pain is subsiding

Never let the pain get ahead of you take the pain meds when it's time for the first week. This is not the time to be a Superwoman...

Remember to do a lot of walking, a little at a time. It mat still be gass pain. You also will not feel 100% until week 4-6 as you had major surgery and your insides need to heal. Don't overdue it. Also, make sure you are drinking a lot of Water and add a stool softener or Fiber to your drinks so that you so not get constipated. That will be the worse! Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
