Alchohol And The Band?

Recommended Posts

I had a funny/ not so funny experience with alcohol. I had 2 drinks of Grand Marnier on the rocks over a 3 hour period. When I got up to leave it hit me.....I can't remember the last time I felt so drunk......it obviously sat in my stomach, and didn't "filter through". Since then I tried a mixed drink and it seems to be ok. I'm sticking with the mixed drinks, without carbonation...

You can have it... Just no carbonation.

But I would suggest you consider the calories and count them into your daily intake or may wonder why you're not losing weight.

Yes, you can, but you have to take into consideration that it is a lot of empty calories. My Doctor did not recommend it in large quantities.

Stay away from carbonation, plan for the calories ahead of time, amd do not drink large amounts of alcohol right before you go to sleep! I'm trying to find the article I read so I can post it here. It was about consuming large amounts of alcohol and falling asleep before its had time to exit your band and it can cause you to asperate in your sleep!

Great question. I have a question, how long after band surgery should one try and introduce wine or alcohol?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
