sassaay 1 Posted March 5, 2004 Hi there, As you read through the posts on this site... you will quickly learn that just about every doctor has a different set of rules for their band patients. What I have seen most recommended is that you follow YOUR doctors orders. I figure it is probably because your doctor actually did your surgery and knows the state of your stomach and the band. My doctor had me on Clear liquids for 1 week with the exception of 2 Protein drinks per day... but I could not have applesauce or yogurt. The second week, I jumped right to pureed foods and now I am 4 weeks out and still in the "mushy" food stage... but I eat some solids and chew them to mush before swallowing. It sounds like the list your doctor gave you will work just fine, my one suggestion would be to not eat solid foods until you have your doctor's OK. For example, my doctor specifically said no salad yet... so I have avoided this, but eat other mushy veggies. Take Care and hang in there.
Laura W 0 Posted March 6, 2004 I read from another post that children's Milicon <sp?> for gas is good and chewing up a GasX pill until it's just nothing but liquid is another option. BUT ask your doctor first! Ground ginger is suppose to relieve gas, you can drink it in ginger ale if you aren't banded that is. Get some ginger, it's a spice that you can get from the store in the spice area beside the pepper, salt, etc. Common spice. Sprinkle it into your Protein Drink. Again ask your doctor first! Chris S. - L.I. 0 Posted March 6, 2004 For the gas one of the best things you can do it walk. Keep walking around your house if you can't get out. I had my surgery in Sept. so here on Long Island the weather was still nice so each day I would take it slow but get out and walk a little bit in my neighborhood each day going a little further. I also took Gas X tablets and it helped. ALso a warm heating pad was very soothing. And if you can get someone to "burp" you it can help. LOL.
Alexandra 55 Posted March 6, 2004 Hi Budha, Yup, everyone feels the gas pains differently and they can be quite uncomfortable. Please be assured that they will pass, and soon. In the meantime, it's good advice to walk around as much as possible. Your diet sounds very typical for the first week or so. Don't worry about calories at this point--the first several weeks are about healing not losing, so if you're hungry go for another glass of milk or something. I drank a lot of chocolate milk made with Ovaltine, which I figured was marginally better for me than Nestle's Quik.
bullit143 0 Posted March 18, 2004 Sorry to hear you are having problems... I had my surgery on 3/10. My doc is VERY strict regarding intake after surgery. He had me on Clear Liquids the first week, and CREAMY FOOD/LIQUIDS for the next month..Now I know this is to give everything time to heal... If you have been eating mushy or solid foods, it may be too soon, My suggestion is to go back to just liquids... gatorade, broths, creamy Soups, fat free yogarts, sugar free posicles...etc.... Your insides had quiet an insult to them, and they need time to heal! Good luck! Bullit
