Big Fat Denial!

Recommended Posts

So I went on the Tricare website today & saw.....NOT APPROVED! I cannot even begin to tell you how upset I am! My surgeons office didn't even know until I called them. So we won't know the reason until tuesday...I sure hope this turns around, my surgery was scheduled for Nov. 19th! :(

Don't give up! I was denied by UHC two days before my surgery. My surgeon had to have a 1:1 conference with the approval department head. They overturned the denial the day before my surgery. It could be the fault of some tiny paperwork mistake. Mine was bc my surgeon put "hypertension" instead of "uncontrolled hypertension".

It's very stressful, that I understand, but persevere and remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease!

My prayers are with you. I was denied twice. I finally asked them if I needed to hire an attorney and went through the whole list of medical problems I have and asked them if they are prepared to either pay one price for the band or continue paying for my medical for the rest of my life. The third time was a charm and they had me approved and in surgery within 2 weeks. Hope all goes well with you.

Dot give up. I have tricare and I was approved. With tricare you have to have a certain bmi to be approved. Or have a higher bmi with an underlying condition such as high blood pressure.

Also make sure that your primary wrote it up right.

Never heard why I was denied. Surgeon did a peer to peer on the 13th & I've been waiting impatiently....UGH, this has been really emotional!

Thank you to ALL for the support!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
