Hi ya'll. This is my first post! I just got banded on Wednesday Nov 7,2012! I went to UC outpatient hospital and all the nurses and my surgeon, Brad Watkins were awesome to work with! I had tried every medication out there, weight loss program etc for YEARS and nothing had ever helped me. That's how I got to to this point of getting LapBand! It's been 2 days since the surgery and I am still in pain all over my stomach, chest, and shoulders, and haven't been able to drink much. Is this normal? I had 3 small cups of Water yesterday and am TRYING to slowly drink a Protein Shake this morning but its really hard since I'm not hungry at all!

My husband was banded October 4th and the pain in the chest and shoulders if from the air used during surgery. It's gas... Walk some as it seemed to help him, by day 4 he was pretty much over the chest and shoulder pain. I am scheduled for banding Nov 13th and kind of know to be expecting that part of recovery. Hope this helps put your mind at ease some, it's normal :)

Welcome Kelly! At first it is hard to drink a lot b/c of swelling, but everyday will get better. I had a problem with drinking to big of sips at first and had to learn small sips constantly. Jean McMillian author of Bandwagon told me 1oz every 15 mins.and that helped.

In 1 wk you will be able to drink close to 64oz.

Best of luck on your journey! Post often!

Thank you Pattygirl and Vanessa for the enouragement and advice! I will take all I can get as this is a crazy new journey. I have my 1 week post op visit next week and see what they have to say about my healing since I am still clueless what to expect ;-)

Vanessa, hope your surgery goes well! Its nice you and your husband are doing this together and can be supportive of eachother through it all!

My husband had gastric bypass 8 years ago- so he was a big help with me the last few days making sure I have everything I need. Sure makes a world of difference with people there that understand!

I may have to look into that book! I'm sure I can do 1 oz every 15 minutes- just trying not to push myself into hurting but also not trying to get dehydrated at this point. Thank you so much!

Kelly,

Hi. Congrats. I got banded yesterday. Thanks to advice from forums, gas pain is dissipated. Am using gas-x, that helps, and a heating pad, and getting up every half hour or so to walk around my house five or six times - gas always comes out. I'm sipping constantly. Hang in there. This is going to be great.

Best wishes to all!

Anna

I was wondering if any of the banded(as I've not done anything yet, Ive got a 6 month diet first:( have every tried squats to help with the gas, or would that be too hard and painful on the abdominal area? Please, let me be clear I AM NOT SUGGESTing, as this is JUST A QUESTION. See thr question mark end of last sentence, and that PROVES IT!lol Sandy

I was banded yesterday, and I thought the gas pain was the worst part (once I got past the nausea). It has gotten so much better with each passing hour, but the most comfortable position for me is laying on my back at maybe a 30 degree angle. The gas seems to level out across my body, and it's a comfortable breathing angle to sleep. Sipping on Water, broth and Protein all day today has been much easier than yesterday. My goal is about 4 ounces per hour, and I am not having too much trouble. I was hungry yesterday, but not today. I need to make a conscious effort to keep up the Fluid intake because I don't feel my body asking for it. Good luck to you, KellyJo88! I hope your post op appointment goes well.

Anna and Maddy, congrats on just being banded!! I love seeing all these people along with myself going through the same things and having different advice. Do you guys have a certain heating pad that works? I have I think it's the Thermopads but they don't work too well. Today is a better day pain wise, but really am NOT hungry or thirsty so it's hard to force myself to get all my fluids in either Protein shakes or Water wise. Did you ladies have to do a 2 week liquid diet before surgery? How much did you lose?

I was on strictly liquids with an exception of 1 cup of salad a day or SFpopsicle and lost 13 pounds. Not only was that a plus but it's amazing how clean my body felt and how much I did NOT crave all the sugars around me.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
